Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 697

But now, he had changed his mind.

Even though he hadn't been formally invited, he texted Emilia anyway.

From the same unsaved number.

Emilia saw the message while she was in the dressing room.

[I'm coming to your banquet tonight, is that okay? — Tyler]

She stared at her reflection in the mirror.

It was perfect timing. She had an announcement to make tonight.

He needed to hear it too.

After a brief pause, she tapped out a reply.

On the other end, Tyler's phone buzzed.

He saw her response—[Okay.]

The corners of his lips curled up slightly.

His mood instantly improved.

She hadn't taken his money or accepted his flowers, but she had agreed to let him come.

With that thought, he pocketed his phone and looked at Chloe, who was sitting nearby.

Chloe felt incredibly anxious.

Earlier in the day, Israel Jensen had told her to come see Tyler, but she had dragged her feet, refusing to show up.

Until just moments ago, when she couldn't stall any longer—Tyler had texted her directly.

"Tyler..." Chloe sneaked a glance at him. "I just muttered a few things at the entrance. Only Nolan and I could hear them. I didn't badmouth Emilia in front of anyone else."

She had already heard that Israel had gone around warning the people who were talking trash about Emilia.

It made Chloe's blood boil.

"I heard you gathered all the people who refused to leave with Emilia and are planning to launch a new investment department?" he asked sharply.

Chloe blinked. She was only in the planning stages. How did Tyler know?

The mockery on Tyler's face deepened. "Chloe, this is The Erickson Group."

He was the boss of The Erickson Group. Nothing escaped his notice. Usually, he just turned a blind eye if things didn't cross the line.

"What exactly are you trying to do?" Tyler demanded. "I told you before, if you want experience, you can take your pick of any major securities firm in Alden City. But stay away from Emilia."

"I'm not doing anything to her," Chloe said, her voice laced with guilt. "I'm just setting up a normal department. These people are professionals in this field. If they're staying at the company, they need a department. Besides, they have excellent connections with MKK Global. Keeping them is a huge asset to us."

Her real goal was to prove to Raymond that she was the one with true talent.

If only everyone from the Dennis family—except Emilia—had stayed, it would have been perfect. They were all top-tier experts. Over the years, they had done a lot for the company, especially regarding their iron-clad relationship with MKK Global.

Tyler frowned, giving her a deep, scrutinizing look. "Chloe, you can't handle them."

"Stop now, while you still have some dignity left."
