But the man merely offered a practiced, corporate smile, effortlessly dodging the commitment. "Well, like I told everyone inside, as long as you meet the financial threshold, you are more than welcome to attend, Emilia."
His tone was flawlessly polite, yet completely noncommittal.
"I am a little curious about one thing, though," Emilia added smoothly, pausing just a beat. "With a technological breakthrough of this magnitude, why didn't you approach the Erickson Group or the Glenn Group directly?"
"That involves internal company strategy, which I'm afraid I can't disclose," he replied, his defense utterly impenetrable.
Emilia nodded graciously. "I apologize for prying."
She scrutinized his face for any micro-expressions.
He didn't flinch, merely mirroring her serene, unbothered smile.
"If there's nothing else, I should really get back inside," he said smoothly.
"Of course. Thanks for your time," Emilia replied.
He offered a polite nod and quickly disappeared back into the crowded hall.
A moment later, Ray jogged over, having noticed the conversation wrapping up.
"How did it go, Boss?" Ray asked anxiously.
Emilia watched Xavier blend back into the mob of investors, her mind spinning with calculations.
"He's incredibly guarded," she murmured.
Exactly. She had only approached him to test his reactions, and his walls were absolute steel.
Emilia drifted back into the banquet hall, making the rounds and exchanging pleasantries with a few familiar faces in her network.
Once she finally returned to her seat, Ray leaned in.
"What's our next move?"
Emilia pulled her gaze away from the crowd.
"We're leaving," she stated flatly. "Back to the office."
"Wait, what?" Ray blinked, completely thrown off. "But the event is still going on."
