Chloe grabbed Raymond's hand urgently. "I found out later that you were in the middle of handling something critical, and you were even injured. You traveled thousands of miles just for me!"
Raymond didn't know what else to say. He could only look at her with exasperated pity.
The intel he had received that night stated that The Erickson Group's liaison in Cerulion was a young woman in grave danger.
He didn't know it was Chloe. He had rushed in assuming it was Emilia.
Even later, he operated under the assumption that Emilia had personally appointed Chloe to manage the overseas affairs, which was the only reason he gave strict orders to prioritize The Erickson Group at every turn.
Over the years, apart from the awkward truth that he had saved the wrong woman, he had been exceptionally clear about his boundaries.
He had even taken Chloe to his private wine cellar to show her the vintage named 'Emilia's Muse' just to make her understand.
But Chloe was drowning in her own delusions, violently rejecting reality.
Raymond debated telling her the brutal truth about the rescue, but he feared crushing her pride would only mutate her jealousy toward Emilia into something far more dangerous.
Instead, he opted for diplomacy. "Saving you was just a matter of convenience. It wasn't what you thought it was. Regardless, The Erickson Group secured those orders purely because of Emilia."
"Ah!"
Chloe let out a piercing scream.
She refused to believe it.
His desperate panic back then hadn't been an act!
She had seen the affection in his eyes with her own two eyes!
And to claim that the pivotal contract that saved their entire company was secured by Emilia?
Emilia was just a useless trophy who followed Tyler around like a lost puppy.
Emilia was a nobody!
"Emilia put you up to this, didn't she?" Chloe demanded, her eyes bloodshot as she glared at him.
But Raymond just shook his head.
"I'm telling you the truth," he said softly.
He stood up, walking over to face her directly.
"I've been in Alden City for a while now, and it's time for me to head back to Cerulion. I'm telling you this today because I need you to accept that nothing will ever happen between her and me."
"So please, stop making things difficult for her."
Raymond reached out and gently patted her shoulder, trying to offer some small comfort.
Chloe violently swatted his hand away.
Her eyes burned red as she shook her head frantically.
Without uttering another word, she spun around and sprinted out of the suite.
It had to be Emilia's doing!
