According to Joyce, Jayden had taken the critique to heart. He was looking to pivot his career and start his own venture to win her family's approval.
Emilia didn't know how it would all play out, but as she drove toward the hospital, her thoughts kept circling back to them. She planned to talk to Arthur Lister first, then track down Joyce to see if there was any way she could help.
After all, she was the reason Joyce and Jayden had met in the first place.
Pulling into a spot near the hospital, Emilia picked up a premium fruit basket before heading into the main building.
Walking through these sterile halls, unwanted memories threatened to surface.
The time she had lost her baby.
Emilia forced her eyes down, ruthlessly shoving the dark thoughts out of her mind.
She quickened her pace and headed straight for the VIP ward Tara had mentioned.
Knock, knock.
Emilia tapped lightly on the door.
"Come in," a raspy voice called out.
Pushing the door open, Emilia found Arthur Lister resting in the hospital bed.
She put on a warm, professional smile. "Mr. Lister. Tara mentioned you were feeling under the weather, so I thought I'd stop by."
She walked all the way in, setting the gift basket neatly on the side table.
Tara waved her off, gesturing for the private nurse to take the gifts. She gave Emilia a meaningful look. "I'm going to sort out the billing."
She took the nurse with her on her way out.
The door clicked shut behind them.
Tara had deliberately cleared the room, giving Emilia and Arthur the privacy they needed.
"Have a seat," Arthur rasped.
Emilia nodded and took the chair beside his bed.
