Ray, standing rigidly behind Emilia, was practically vibrating with rage.
"Oh, how incredibly generous of you," Ray snapped, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Frederick didn't even acknowledge the assistant. He kept his eyes locked on Emilia.
"Well? Nothing to say?" he pushed.
Emilia lowered her gaze for a fraction of a second before a soft laugh escaped her lips.
"I just think the two of you are acting incredibly childish," she said, her voice steady and light.
Before either could fire back, she continued, "One plays bad cop, the other plays the provocateur. Cute routine."
Emilia looked up at Caleb.
"Caleb, formal verification usually takes paperwork. But since we're improvising rules today, is there a faster method you'd accept?"
"Trying to use red tape as an excuse?" Frederick sneered. "I have an idea. Let's just look at the account balances."
He shot Caleb a patronizing look. "Does that work for you, Caleb?"
Caught in the crossfire, Caleb could only nod helplessly.
It was just a liquidity check.
A bank balance would suffice.
Frederick turned his smug face back to Emilia. "There. Is that simple enough for you?"
"Perfect." Emilia glanced over her shoulder at Ray.
Ray nodded and immediately pulled up a secure portal on her tablet.
"The simplest method," Emilia said as Ray cast the screen onto the boardroom's main projector.
It was Dennis Capital's corporate account balance.
The room collectively leaned in, counting the digits. Tens, hundreds, thousands, millions...
Chloe let out a sharp bark of laughter.
"Well, consider me surprised. But Emilia, that's only eighty million. Still short."
