Emilia remained silent. Across the room, Chloe leveled a taunting glare at her.
"What's the matter, Emilia? Still stuck at sixty million?" Chloe sneered. "Expecting Christian to foot the rest of the bill?"
Emilia met her gaze calmly.
Raymond had called her recently to say he had made things crystal clear with Chloe.
Yet, looking at her now, it was obvious Chloe's hatred burned just as fiercely as before.
"Inceptus will invest seventy-five million dollars," Emilia said.
Chloe burst into laughter.
Her phone screen glowed with the latest intel: *Emilia's funds are completely borrowed. Her principal of tens of millions is tied up offshore.*
*Our contacts at MKK Global confirmed the exact deadline is unknown, but it's incredibly tight. If she defaults, all her collateral—including her own assets and everything that once belonged to Inman Dennis—will fall into the hands of MKK Global.*
Toying with her phone, Chloe smirked. "Are you absolutely sure, Emilia?"
"Wasn't this your proposal?" Emilia smiled back. "I agreed to it. Aren't you thrilled?"
"Thrilled!" Chloe nodded eagerly. "Absolutely thrilled!"
She clapped her hands and turned to Caleb. "Let's sign the paperwork, Mr. Lewis. I even brought the company seal."
Caleb froze, blinking at the room of expectant faces before reality set in.
"Oh, right! Of course. Does anyone else have any objections?" he asked, unable to hide the grin tugging at his lips.
He had thought scraping together a hundred million would be a miracle. Now, he was looking at three hundred million dollars, and the agonizing hospital crisis was finally resolved.
Emilia was even willing to loan him the money.
The truth was, he and his partner were practically brothers. They had built Aegis Dynamics from the ground up. Over the past few months, countless rivals had tried to poach his partner with astronomical offers, but the man had never once wavered.
It was only his mother's critical illness that had finally shaken him.
Suddenly, a man burst through the conference room doors, chest heaving as he frantically interrupted the meeting.
The sudden intrusion made everyone jump.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Chloe asked, immediately playing the part of the concerned investor.
"Miss Erickson, it's a disaster! I just got the news. Please tell me you haven't signed yet. Do not sign that contract!" the man shouted.
His voice echoed off the glass walls.
"What are you talking about?" Chloe gasped, pressing a hand to her chest. "We just finalized the terms. We were about to stamp it."
"Aegis Dynamics' lead engineer just walked out! The company's potential is dead in the water. You can't sign!" he yelled.
Caleb's face drained of all color.
"Is this true?" Chloe demanded, acting utterly appalled. She whirled around to glare at the podium. "Mr. Lewis, I can't believe you lied to me! The deal is off! We're leaving!"
