Chloe immediately ordered her team to pack up, making a grand show of storming out.
Beside her, Frederick tossed the pen he had been pretending to use onto the table.
"That's incredibly low, Mr. Lewis," Frederick said coldly. "You should have disclosed something of this magnitude before asking for our capital."
"Wait... no!" Caleb pleaded, scrambling to salvage the situation. "Everything is fine! It's just a misunderstanding. He didn't leave, I swear!"
"Do you honestly expect me to believe you?" Frederick scoffed. "You deliberately concealed critical information. I'm not signing this."
The other investors in the room had received anonymous tips from Chloe's people during the intermission. They had been skeptical at first, but after having their own assistants make some discreet calls—and seeing Caleb's panicked reaction combined with Chloe and Frederick's absolute certainty—they were thoroughly convinced it was true.
"Unbelievable! You actually tried to scam us, Caleb!"
"Thank God we didn't fall into your trap today. We would've bled millions!"
"You've got some nerve, Lewis!"
They showered Chloe with grateful looks.
If she hadn't tipped them off during the break, they might have thrown their money into a sinking ship. Their entire investments would have vanished overnight.
"We owe you one, Miss Erickson. Thank you so much!"
"Yes, thank you!"
"A brilliant mind and a kind heart."
...
The entire conference room erupted into chaos. Caleb couldn't reveal the private conversation he'd had with Emilia, so he was forced to repeat over and over that it was a misunderstanding and that Elias Thorne hadn't defected.
Naturally, no one listened to him.
Caleb paced the floor in an absolute panic.
Amidst the frenzy, only two people remained perfectly composed in their seats.
