Ramon picked up the phone.
Isabelle woke up at eight in the evening.
Every part of her ached, as if she’d been run over by a truck–repeatedly.
Tumbling down the stairs, being dragged… her whole body felt broken.
Her throat was parched. She blinked dry, sore eyes. Her face felt tight, and even her breath seemed to burn.
She tried to sit up to get water, but her legs were still shaking. The fear from the kidnapping clung to her, refusing to fade.
The VIP room was empty. She pressed the call button.
A young nurse entered shortly after, checking her IV. “You’re awake. Your boyfriend stepped out, but he should be back soon. Do you need to use the bathroom, or anything?”
Boyfriend?
She must mean Collin.
Isabelle said, “He’s not my boyfriend. I’m married.”
“Oh, so it’s your husband.”
“He’s not my husband either.” Just as she finished, the door opened.
Collin walked in.
“You’re awake,” he said, his voice a low, resonant baritone.
The nurse excused herself.
Isabelle’s eyes followed Collin as he approached. She tried to sit up a little. “Thank you.”
“Don’t move.” Collin walked to the bed and raised the backrest.
That’s better. Isabelle smiled.
“How do you feel?” he asked, handing her a bottle of water.
“Dizzy. Everything hurts. And I’m starving,” Isabelle said.
A soft chuckle escaped him. “That’s normal. I brought food. You’ll feel better after you eat.”
“Thanks, Collin.” She felt a bit more at ease and carefully started to push the covers aside.
