After changing, Isabelle set the food on the bed tray, took a few bites, and began swapping her SIM card while she ate
The moment the phone powered on, she saw over a dozen missed calls from Damian, a long string of WhatsApp messages, and a few from Regina.
There were also several calls from the same unknown number.
Those unknown calls came in right after they called Gary during the rescue. She had blocked Gary’s number, so he must be using someone else’s phone.
Isabelle allowed herself a small, cold smile.
When Ramon sent the photos to Gary today, Gary had transferred the million dollars to the welfare fund without a second thought.
His love really was unwavering.
Too bad Isabelle didn’t love him anymore. She didn’t need it.
Someone else can have that trash.
With that thought, Isabelle quickly dialed Damian.
He answered immediately.
“Belie, where are you?” Damian asked.
“I’m at the hospital…” she replied, her voice weary.
“Where in the hospital? I’m coming to you.”
Hearing the urgency in his voice, she wasn’t sure how to describe her own feelings.
Here was a CEO known for his decisive, commanding style–and now he sounded completely unhinged.
“I’m in the ward next to Celeste’s,” she said.
Damian’s expression darkened on the other end.
In a ward? Why is she in a ward?
He hung up and headed straight over.
Three quick raps sounded, and the door opened.
It was Collin.
“Collin,” she said between bites. “Where did you get this food? It’s really good.” She licked a bit of sauce from the corner of her lip.
Collin’s gaze lingered on her mouth. He swallowed, then placed a cappuccino on the side table before saying casually. “My mother made it. She remembers you used to love her beef bourguignon.”

Isabelle didn’t dwell on his words, her attention fixed on the coffee. “For me?”
“Yeah. Saw it while I was out and thought of you.” He sat in a nearby chair and picked up an apple to peel.
“You saved my life. I won’t forget it,” Isabelle said, giving him a smile before continuing her meal.
He just smiled back, not saying more.
Damian arrived just as Isabelle finished eating. Collin was clearing the dishes from her tray.
Noticing a bit of food at the corner of her mouth, Collin naturally reached out and wiped it away with his thumb.
Isabelle tilted her head slightly, a fraction too late to avoid the touch. She pressed her lips together. “Thanks.”
Damian’s eyes turned ice–cold.
Seems Isabelle has her share of admirers. Now I deeply understand where that jealous anger comes from.
Sometimes, only an outsider could see how someone else felt about you.
It’s like how I treated Celeste. To me, it was just what any decent person would do. But through a woman’s eyes, it becomes a different
story.
!
Now, Damian could see it clearly. The way Collin looked at Isabelle wasn’t just friendly concern–it was a man’s desire for a woman.
He was someone Isabelle clearly enjoyed talking to. He was the one who brought her to the hospital last time she had a fever, and now he was here again. Damian’s sense of crisis shot up.
Collin had felt Damian’s cold stare the moment he entered. He’d seen him in his peripheral vision but chose to ignore it, acting even more familiar instead.
“You’re here,” Isabelle said, her mood visibly lifting at the sight of Damian.
Collin stepped aside to make room. “Mr. Cross. Finally made it.”
“Thanks,” Damian said, the word tight.
Collin smiled, said he had things to do, and left without any further attempt to converse with Damian.
Isabelle gave an awkward nod, not asking him to stay.
Damian sat on the edge of the bed, taking her hand. “What happened? I saw all your missed calls and was going out of my mind. I called back, but you didn’t answer.”
Isabelle told him everything, start to finish.
Once he was sure she was okay, Damian’s expression grew cold and hard.
A fierce, suffocating pain gripped his chest, as if a hand were squeezing his heart.
He looked at the scratches on her wrists, imagined her being taken today, and a chill ran down his spine.
If she had died because of Nicole, I could never forgive myself.

Damian regretted so deeply not answering her call.
A cold, sharp suspicion began to form.
Did Celeste really just “accidentally” knock my phone over?
And it just happened to power off?
What a coincidence.
The guilt made Damian want to slap himself.
Watching Isabelle drift into an exhausted sleep, he made a call to have fresh clothes delivered. He stripped off everything he wearing, bagged it up, and threw it all away.
Then, his eyes fell on the cappuccino sitting on the nightstand.
Damian glanced at it, picked it up, thought about tossing it… but didn’t.
He then drank it.
Not long after, Brian arrived.
