Chapter 806 The Uniform
Harold looked even more pitiful than Zander.
He was about to lie down when Claudia turned and nudged him. “Hey… put something on first.”
“Alright.” Harold nodded.
“Daddy’s embarrassing, walking around without clothes,” Zander whispered to Claudia.

“Dadcy just got out of the shower, sweetie. It’s not like he never wears clothes.” Claudia was worried he’d repeat that somewhere else. “He was about to come get you and didn’t have time to get dressed.”
Harold chuckled under his breath and headed into the walk–in closet to throw something on.
When he came out, Claudia was settling Zander down for the night.
Zander drifted off almost immediately.
Harold walked over, switched off the bedside lamp, left the floor lamp glowing softly, then slid into bed behind Claudia.
He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close, and buried his face against the curve of her neck.
“Harold…” Claudia murmured quietly.
She’d just gotten Zander to sleep, and she was exhausted herself.
“I want more.” Harold brushed a kiss against her shoulder from behind.
Claudia pushed his hand away gently, careful not to wake Zander. “No, you don’t…”
This guy must’ve taken something.
She could hear him laugh softly against her back.
He tugged the comforter over them, and his hand drifted beneath the hem other nightshirt.
Claudia flushed. She caught his wrist, trying to still his movements.
Harold wasn’t having it. He tucked Claudia’s shirt into Zander’s arms–the boy held onto it, breathing in her scent, and sank deeper into sleep–then scooped Claudia up and carried her back to the study.
Claudia hadn’t expected that trick to work. Surprisingly, he was pretty good with kids.
He set her down on the sofa.
She grabbed a throw blanket from nearby and draped it over herself. “Harold, you’re such a jerk…”
Harold leaned over her and tugged the blanket away. A low laugh escaped him. He’d wanted to do this back at the lake house.
He couldn’t deny the pull he felt toward her—physical, intense.
“This is just normal married life. And you already

Claudia quickly covered his mouth, not letting him finish.
Harold took her wrists and pinned them above her head.
Claudia caught a glimpse of restraint in his eyes.
He frowned slightly. “Can I?”
Claudia studied him–strong yet strangely vulnerable in that moment–and found herself nodding.

He slid an arm around her neck, drawing her up, then wrapped the other firmly around her waist. His kiss followed, deep and
unhurried.
When Claudia woke, the space beside her was empty.
She rolled over. “Ugh…”
Her whole body ached.
“Damn Haroid,” she muttered as she sat up.
Harold had just pushed the door open and caught it.
Claudia was actually cursing him under her breath.
Claudia met his gaze, pressed her lips together, and looked away, embarrassed.
He closed the door gently behind him. “Sorry…”
Even as he said it, she could see the faint smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
Claudia reached for her phone and checked the time.
“Ten o’clock?”
Already? Crap. This was her first time staying over at Cross Manor. Wasn’t it bad manners to get up so late?
“Sleep a little longer if you’re tired. Mom isn’t up yet either,” Harold said.
“No, it’s fine.” She got out of bed. Her legs felt even wobblier than they had yesterday.
She walked into the bathroom and, worried Harold might follow, locked the door behind her.
Leaning against the sink, Claudia frowned at her reflection, checking carefully for any marks.
Luckily, Harold had shown some restraint this time. Nothing visible was left behind.
Harold glanced at the bathroom door, smiled to himself, and walked into the closet.
The next time they saw each other, Claudia was stepping out of the bathroom.
Harold stood beside the bed in a crisp uniform, his cover resting on the mattress. fastening his watch

Claudia froze for a good few seconds.
In that uniform, Harold looked every bit the commanding officer–sharp, authoritative, timeless.
The rank insignia had been removed. He stood tall and straight in the olive–green fabric, and when he turned to look at Claudia, the intensity in his eyes softened, turning the uniform’s imposing presence into something gentle, just for her.
“Are you heading out?” Claudia asked, still a little dazed
She rarely looked at him this closely, this intently–especially not in uniform. It was a rare sight.
The corner of Harold’s mouth lifted as he walked toward her.
Claudia barely had time to step back before he hooked an arm around her waist, holding her against him.
Her hands came up against the thick wool of his jacket–solid, substantial.
“We’re taking wedding photos today. You forgot.”
Claudia blinked, then met his warm gaze. “You’re wearing your uniform for the pictures?”
“Yeah. What do you think?”
“Really handsome,” Claudia answered honestly. The moment she said it, she dropped her eyes shyly.
Harold looked down at her. Those same hands that had held him close last night were now pressed against his chest.
“Let’s go,” he said, his voice rough.
“Let me get changed first.” Claudia flustered, already turning.
Harold took her hand. Seeing her so ruffled, he couldn’t help but find it endearing. “Change on the plane.”
“What?”
And just like that–still in her pajamas and slippers–Claudia let him lead her by the hand out of the room.
