Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112: 112-Always In My Brother’s Arms.

Jaguar:

The last time I had been to her place, I had asked her to change the keypad code for her own security.

But when I arrived this time and stood outside the door, I realized she had changed the code again.

That alone did not sit well with me. She was not as naive as I had thought.

"But did she ever say she was naive or stupid?" my wolf remarked.

I don’t know why I was so emotional. There was definitely something wrong with me, and I just couldn’t understand what it was.

I was taking everything about her literally too seriously.

I had the duplicate key to her house.

That still worked, but there was another lock that I did not have a key for. That was new.

The moment I reached into my pocket to check, my body stiffened when I heard a voice in front of me.

"Good day, you are the Alpha King, right?"

I slowly pulled my hand back out of my pocket, turned around, and smiled at Mrs. Baker.

"Yeah, you remembered me," I said almost idiotically.

Of course she did.

There was no way someone would break into a house and not remember Alpha King sitting in a bed with their neighbor.

"I’m just surprised to see you here," she said with a smile, holding up a basket of fresh croissants. "I baked these for Verity," she added, watching my face the entire time.

"Yeah, but she’s not home," I replied with a smile.

She looked me in the eye as though there was something she wanted to say.

"Oh, um–I thought you’d have a key to her apartment. I mean, you were dating her, right?"

The moment she said that, my heart sank.

Why would she assume I was dating Verity?

"Oh, um, yeah– it’s, um–" I started to stammer.

"I understand. People usually keep things quiet until they make it official. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone," she said cheerfully, making a zipping motion across her lips.

"Actually, we were supposed to meet today, but I guess she’s running late," I said awkwardly. "But I do have a key. I just don’t know the passcode to her place." I held up the key, explaining that she had already given me one but had forgotten to tell me the passcode.

"You don’t happen to know the passcode, right?"

The moment I asked that, I watched her gulp before nodding.

"Yeah. I—I know the passcode," she replied, quickly composing herself in front of me.

Then she entered the passcode.

It felt as though my heart had started beating again.

The door unlocked, and she gestured for me to go inside, almost as though it were her own home.

I followed her in, hoping Verity wouldn’t come back and find us inside her apartment.

She would lose her mind all over again and start screaming at me.

Lately, all I had been doing was disappointing her.

Once we got inside, she immediately placed the basket in the middle of the table and gestured for me to sit on the couch, as though she owned the place as much as Verity did.

So I sat down, acting as if I belonged there, as if I wasn’t just sneaking in.

"Actually—" I began.

She kept smiling at me, giving me a strange look that made me uncomfortable under her steady gaze.
