Verity:
It appeared Ragnar was going neck and neck with the lycan.
It went on for the next ten minutes before I realized Ragnar was badly injured.
His wolf was covered in claw marks and bite marks.
I even saw Ragnar bite into the lycan’s skin. I don’t think it ever bled.
As for me, I kept running from one side window to the other, trying to see what was happening.
The driver had his eyes tightly shut, his hands pressed over his ears.
He had curled up on the seat. He screamed every once in a while.
Then my heart skipped a beat when the lycan finally got a hold of Ragnar’s wolf’s neck.
The advantage was that the lycan was on its two feet. It could use both hands to grab and fight in a way a wolf couldn’t.
Then it tossed Ragnar into the woods.
I’m not sure how far he flew, but I saw the trees shaking far ahead, as far as the car’s headlights could reach.
Then everything went silent.
"Do you think the Alpha King is dead?" the driver asked me.
I placed my hand on the seat in front of me.
"I’m not sure," I whispered.
There was silence.
Then suddenly, a claw came through the driver’s side window.
Right before my eyes, I watched the biggest hand with enormous claws grab the driver’s head and start dragging him out of the car.
The driver started screaming, and so did I.
I immediately reached for my purse, grabbed a pocket knife, and lunged forward. I don’t know why.
I started attacking the lycan’s hand.
The moment my fingers touched its rough skin as I grabbed one of its fingers, goosebumps prickled across my skin.
It was the weirdest burning feeling.
I started stabbing the back of its hand.
But its grip was far stronger.
I’m not even sure why I was fighting back. I didn’t even have a wolf.
But the thought of an innocent man being killed had taken over me.
Before I even realized it, I had started stabbing the lycan until it pulled the driver out through the window, with the pocket knife still embedded in the back of its hand.
The next thing I knew, I heard a skull crack, and at that point, I realized there was no point in trying to save the driver.
The lycan did it right in front of me.
With my heart thundering in my chest, I lifted myself from my seat and saw the lycan sitting on the road beside the car, eating the driver.
"Ah!" I screamed, kicking away from that side.
I opened the other door and threw myself out, heading into the woods to look for Ragnar.
I couldn’t stay here. It seemed like the lycan’s appetite was huge.
Even after eating the driver, I wasn’t sure it would just leave.
The minute the hot surface came in contact with my body, I started to crawl away.
Then I heard another loud screech from the lycan.
Then I saw him stand tall above the hood of the car.
