air.
Orion’s mouth twitched, an involuntary reaction he couldn’t quite hide. My wolf caught the scent of his irritation–a sharp, metallic tang in the
What an act, seriously!
Here he was, an Alpha running a massive pack empire, acting as if spending time with his mate was the most crucial business of his life.
I didn’t pay any mind to Orion reeling from Grayson’s barb. I walked straight to the bedside and began examining Miles, my fingers grazing his wrist to feel the pulse of his wolf’s heart.
A few minutes later, I withdrew my hand, my expression calm as I spoke.
“You’re recovering well.”
I looked at Miles. “In three more days, your blood–core will be stabilized enough for you to be released. You can go back to the den and recuperate there.”
“Really? That’s wonderful!”
Sunny’s face instantly lit up with a delighted smile.
She grabbed Chloe’s hand and said excitedly, “He’ll recover so much better at the family estate! I can take good care of Miles in his own den, and Chloe, you won’t have to be so tired staying at the Healer’s Sanctum every day!
Chloe’s cheeks instantly flushed a deep red.
She lowered her head shyly, murmuring her agreement.
From his healing bed, Miles watched the heartwarming scene unfold, a gentle smile spreading across his face too.
Three days later.
Miles was successfully released from the Healer’s care.
Everyone from the Ge
family, except for Grandpa Grant, showed up in full force to bring him back to the fold.
The Grants‘ new estate in Kyoto Territory was a sprawling lakeside villa, protected by the pack’s ancient boundary wards.
The moment we stepped through the heavy oak doors of the den, Sunny sprang into action.
She directed the house staff to get Miles’s room in order, then personally made the bed with soft linens, her wolf’s nesting instincts attending to every detail herself.
“Miles, you should lie down and rest first.”
“Chloe, come sit down too. Don’t just stand there.”
Sunny took Chloe’s hand, gently urging her onto the sofa. Then she turned and went into the kitchen area, emerging with platters of high–protein game and pastries she’d prepared earlier.
“Come on, everyone, have some snacks.”
She moved like a whirlwind, darting between the living room and the sleeping quarters, her face beaming with a contented, happy smile.
As I watched Sunny bustling around and the cheerful Grant pack members settling comfortably on the sofa, the void that had ached in my heart for over twenty years–the hollow space where my maternal bond should have been–felt like it was finally, slowly, being filled. I glanced at the time on my Howlnet slate.
“I should head to the office,” I said, my words breaking the lively atmosphere.
My mom immediately stopped what she was doing and hurried over to me, a flicker of reluctance crossing her face. Her scent wafted over–sweet cream and anxiety.
“Leaving so soon? Can’t you stay in the den a little longer?”
“I’ve got things to do at Fire.”
“Grayson’s all better now, you really shouldn’t push yourself so hard. Take care of yourself.”
Mom just kept going, rattling off a few more things before she seemed to catch herself, a realization dawning that she might be overdoing it. Then, almost shyly, she added, “So… when you have a moment, remember to come home for dinner, okay?”
The expectation in her voice was palpable.
I nodded. “Okay.”

My simple ‘Okay made a brilliant smile instantly bloom across Mom’s face.
Grayson had been quietly by my side, his Alpha aura a steady, grounding force. Now, he slid an arm around my waist, offering a gentle farewell to Sunny and everyone else.
“Mom, Big Brother, we’re heading out first.”
Sunny saw us off at the gate.
Even after the Shadow–Alpha Runner disappeared from view, I knew Sunny would still be standing there at the doorway, watching her pups go for a long time.
The vehicle pulled up and settled in front of the Fire Tech building.
Grayson leaned over and pressed a kiss to my forehead. His wolf’s pheromones were calm, but possessive.
“Don’t work too hard. I’ll pick you up tonight.”
“Mhm,” I hummed, then pushed open the car door and stepped out.
I felt Grayson’s gaze on my back as I walked into the building, a silent promise that he wouldn’t leave until I was completely within the safety of the wards. Only then, I knew, would he instruct the driver to head to Miller Corp.
Night fell.
At nine o’clock, Grayson arrived back at our private den.
He was taking off his high–collared Alpha coat when he asked, “Where’s my wife?”
“The Luna isn’t back yet,” came the reply from a servant.
Grayson paused, his hand still holding the coat, then pulled it back on. He turned and headed out the door again, his eyes flashing a warning gold.
As he walked, he tried to open a mind–link to me.
The connection searched, but there was no response, as if my consciousness was shielded.
Grayson’s brow furrowed slightly. His wolf began to pace behind his ribs.
He tried the mind–link again.
Still the same result once.
He stopped dead in his tracks and opened a link to Faye.
“Boss,” Faye’s voice came through the telepathic channel almost instantly.
“Where’s Isabella?”
“Director Miller… she’s in the lab.”
“Still?”
I knew Faye was worried. “Yes, I haven’t left the lab since this afternoon, and I didn’t even eat dinner,” she told him. I could almost feel the tremor of concern in her thoughts as she said it, a worry that echoed deep within my own weary mind.
Grayson’s dark eyes deepened.“Understood.”
He severed the link and strode quickly towards the lift.
My world was Fire Pharmaceuticals Technologies.
Even late into the night, the office building downstairs glowed brightly with the hum of the pack’s commerce, but up here, in my exclusive lab on the top floor, the only sound was the familiar, comforting hum of my instruments.
That’s why the soft ding of the elevator was so jarring.
My head snapped up as the doors slid open, shattering the quiet.
And there he was. Grayson. He stepped out, his long legs moving with a silent, predatory power that always captivated me, but his face was a blank slate. He was still in the same perfectly tailored handmade suit he’d worn all day, the dark fabric clinging to his powerful frame. But it wasn’t the suit that caught my eye. It was the way a visible layer of frost seemed to cling to his impossibly handsome features, his Alpha pheromones turning sharp and icy, chilling the air around him.
Faye, who’d been waiting at the end of the corridor, practically flew towards him the moment she spotted him, her face a mask of anxiety. “Grayson,” she said, her voice tight.
He didn’t break his stride, his gaze sweeping past Faye to land on the reinforced alloy door that required multiple levels of blood–scan security

clearance to open.
“Where is she?” His voice was low, carrying a thread of Alpha anger that was almost imperceptible, yet it vibrated in the silent hallway.
Faye hurried after him, quickly reporting as she walked, “Isabella went into the core lab at three this afternoon and hasn’t come our since. Her mind–link is shut down. L. I didn’t dare go in and disturb her.”
The Core Lab. That was my sanctuary, my absolute domain.
No one entered without my express permission.
I saw Grayson’s face harden, his jaw tightening further.
He strode towards the heavy alloy door, not even pausing as he pressed his palm against the scanner.
A soft beep sounded.“Access granted. Welcome, Alpha Miller.”
