Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 207

Chapter 207

The blade glinted in the sunlight.

“Stop!” Vance yelled.

“Made up your mind yet?” Malcolm grinned viciously. “You’re picking your lover?”

Vance looked at Rebecca with pure agony. She stayed calm, watching the sunlit floor below. The light was getting stronger, turning the concrete golden.

Π

“Let’s make it even more fun and help you decide,” Malcolm chuckled. “Whoever we release second, we might not be able to control our hands.”

“What do you mean?” Vance frowned.

Pa

“It means…” Malcolm laughed wildly, “by the time we get to that person, we might be tired. It’s hard to say if we won’t end up slashing her face.”

Both men pressed the flat of their blades against the women’s cheeks.

“Wait!” Vance was torn, his eyes darting between them.

Catherine was too scared to say another word.

Π

“Hurry up!” Elliott urged, running out of patience. “We don’t have all day. Are you stalling so the police can get here?”

“I’ll count to three. If you haven’t chosen by then, both faces get cut.” Malcolm started counting fast. ” One, two, three!”

“Release Cathy!” Vance roared, his voice raw and broken. 1

The whole floor went silent. Then Malcolm burst into laughter, joined by the other kidnappers.

They were laughing because they thought it was hilarious. Soren was laughing bitterly because his son-in -law had picked another woman. Vance was panting, looking completely shattered.

Vance panted, looking shattered, while Rebecca stayed calm, knowing the answer all along.

She just didn’t understand Vance’s pain. He made that choice himself, so why was he falling apart?

“Rebecca…” Vance was in agony, as if someone were choking him.

He couldn’t get any more words out. She had no expression, not even fear. She just looked at him, then

at the sunlit floor ahead.

“We keep our word. Catch!” Malcolm shoved Catherine forward.

Rebecca felt Elliott’s grip loosen slightly. A shadow of a hand appeared on the sunlit floor, making a quick gesture.

She gave Vance a small smile, muttering inwardly, “Vance, goodbye. This is it for us.”

Vance saw that smile and tried to process it. She suddenly leaned backward out the open window.

“Rebecca!” He caught Catherine as she stumbled toward him and screamed like his soul was being ripped out.

Everyone’s attention was on Vance. No one had expected her to jump.

Elliott instinctively reached out, but a pair of arms shot in from outside the window, locking onto

Rebecca’s.

She swung, did a flip, and disappeared. It happened in a blink. One second she was there, and the next

she was gone.

Elliott and Malcolm rushed to the window. There was Rebecca, clinging to the back of a man who was

hanging from a rope.

A safety net was outside the tenth floor. The man bounced on it, slid down fast, and vanished.

“I’m sorry I’m late!” Desmond sprinted.

“Perfect timing. Thank you,” Rebecca replied.

There was no time for small talk. They had to run. Desmond poured on speed, rounded the side of the next building, and stopped beside a waiting car.

He helped her into the passenger seat, jumped in, started the engine, and floored it. Rebecca didn’t ask where they were going. Anywhere was safer than that place.

Finally, the car pulled up in front of a hotel, “Want to get a room and wash up? I’ll go buy you some new clothes.”

Rebecca was still suffering from the aftershock. When the knife had been pressed to her face, she had felt more despair than fear.

She was still shaking, afraid not for herself, but for what would happen to Josette if anything went wrong.
