Chapter 209
Rebecca showered and changed into the clothes Desmond had bought.
When she was done, he knocked. “It’s me. I brought food.”
She opened the door and saw him standing there with two big bags-restaurant meals and fresh fruit.
“Here, you must be starving.” He set everything on the table. “I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I grabbed a little of everything.”
She was stunned by the varieties. Her eyes lit up because among them was her favorite steamed sea bass. She loved them, but Vance had always preferred spicy food.
After that ordeal, they were both starving. They polished off the whole fish, soup, and the dishes.
“We don’t eat like dancers at all,” Desmond chuckled.
Rebecca laughed along. “I gave up dancing years ago.”
But old habits die hard. She kept her diet most of the time.
“Passion lives in the heart. The rest is just details.” He pressed a hand to his chest, his eyes earnest.
She nodded, and he added, “Get some rest. I’ll be next door. Call me if you need anything.”
He quickly cleaned up, giving her space and time to process. “Oh, and I called the police. They should have everything under control by now.”
What had happened that day was a huge blow. Vance had made a choice that cut deep.
But once things were handled, he would definitely come looking for her. She needed time to decide how
to face him.
She was exhausted. After Desmond left, she locked the door and lay down in bed.
The second she relaxed, every bone ached. She didn’t replay that day like Desmond thought she would. Instead, she decided to sleep on it.
The hotel pillow was soft. The moment her head hit it, she felt drowsy and knew that she would get to sleep in for once.
No one would disturb her because her phone had been left behind. But her sleep didn’t last long. The police arrived.
They spoke to Desmond first to get his statement, then came to Rebecca, the victim. She helplessly shook her head, having dealt with the police too much recently.
She recounted the whole story in detail, while Desmond waited anxiously beside her,
When she finished, he jumped in, “Sir, she has been through a lot today, Can she just stay here and rest

instead of going to the station?”
The officers nodded, explaining they were only gathering information. They took notes on everything and
left.
But Rebecca still couldn’t relax because Vance showed up right after.
Ready to head to the airport, Desmond came to say goodbye and left her some cash. After all, she had nothing on her, not even her phone.
When Vance arrived, Desmond was opening the door. He looked inside and saw Rebecca sitting on the
bed in a robe, a stack of cash on the nightstand.
“What are you doing here?” His eyes narrowed with hostility toward Desmond.
“Where else would I be?” Desmond scoffed. “Standing next to another woman and telling her I chose her?
Vance paused, looking at Rebecca, who stared back blankly.
