Chapter 210
“Desmond Schroeder!” Vance growled through clenched teeth. “Let’s get one thing straight. Wherever you are doesn’t matter. Rebecca is my wife, and you have no business being near her!”
“Really?” Desmond refused to back down. “If I hadn’t shown up today, she would have either jumped or had her face sliced open. Is that what you wanted?”
Vance grabbed him by the collar. “Kid, I don’t care how powerful your family is. Stay away from my woman!”
Desmond gripped his fist. “Get this straight. She is herself and a dancer. She is not anyone’s woman or accessory!”
Vance swung and punched him square in the jaw. “Ask her! Who is she? Ask her if she is my woman!”
Rebecca rushed forward and stepped between them. “Vance, get out! Out of my room!”
His eyes widened. “What did you just say? Say it again.”
“I said get out of my room!” she repeated, planting herself firmly in front of Desmond.
“You want me to get out of this room?” Vance pointed at himself, incredulous. “Do you even hear yourself? Without me, would you even be in this hotel right now?”
“Excuse me, Mr. Bradford,” Desmond chimed in. “First of all, she could stand on her own feet. Without you, she would be a world-famous dancer surrounded by flowers and applause. She could afford any
hotel she wanted!”
That hit Vance in the exact place that hurt most. If not for saving him, Rebecca would never have been crippled. It was a debt he would carry forever.
“Second, even if we pretend that’s true, it’s the bare minimum for you to take care of her, not something to hold over her head,” Desmond continued. “Third, I’m the one who paid for this room.”
“You bastard!” Vance cursed and lunged, trying to yank Desmond over.
Rebecca kept Desmond shielded, blocking Vance’s advance.
He lost it and jabbed a finger at her. “What the hell is this? You’re protecting him?”
She was unblinking. “Yes. Because he protected me when I was in danger.”
He looked into her eyes and saw nothing-no warmth, no ripples, just icy coldness.
He took a deep breath. “I know you’re angry. Come home and talk. Don’t make a scene here in public.”
“A scene?” she muttered. “Isn’t what happened today already a scene?”
He froze, and she continued, “Besides, I’m not angry.”

It was the truth. She hadn’t felt a single spark of rage about his choice. She was just done.
“Was it him? Did this kid talk trash about me?” He pointed at Desmond. “You coward, come out and face me! Don’t hide behind a woman!”
