Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 253

Chapter 253

Lauren nodded and walked away.

Rebecca turned around and answered the call. “What the hell do you want?”

Vance’s voice came through hoarse and thick. “Rebecca… Rebecca…”

“If you have something to say, say it.”

“I feel awful. I’m miserable…” he murmured, his voice unclear.

“If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up. Your misery has nothing to do with me.”

“Don’t. I’m really sick.”

She almost laughed. “You’re sick, and you’re calling me instead of a doctor? Are you serious?”

“I want water. My head is killing me. I can’t get up.”

It was like talking to a brick wall. Nothing she said registered, but one thing was clear: he was delirious and suddenly remembered he had a wife.

“You want someone to take care of you, right?”

“I feel terrible…”

“Then call Cathy. She knows the house code. Let her play nurse.”

“Cathy? No, I can’t bother her.”

Rebecca hung up, irritated.

Even from across the ocean, he managed to piss her off. In his mind, Cathy was the untouchable princess, and she was just the live-in help? Screw that.

“Rebecca.” Desmond came up, noticing her expression. “Anything wrong?”

“Nothing,” she replied, shaking her head. “Let’s go eat.”

“Eating is everything,” Desmond grinned.

Rebecca chuckled, her mood lightened by his subtle encouragement. He was right-before food, everything could wait.

She was far away in the open world. No way was she letting old garbage drag her down.

Vance kept talking until the line went dead. He closed his eyes, phone still in hand, and slipped back into sleep.

The doorbell woke him. He pulled the covers over his head and ignored it. When it finally stopped, he tried to sleep again, but Nancy came up the stairs.

Nancy had been discharged but was limping due to her sprained ankle. Her arm was in a cast and slung across her chest. Her daughter, Cecilia Blanchard, had come along.

After leaving the countryside, Nancy had changed Cecilia’s last name to hers, hoping the girl would always live in sunshine.

She had come to pack her things. With Rebecca gone, the household no longer needed her.

She rang the bell, but no one was answering. Figuring the house was empty, she decided to go in and pack, then let Vance know through a call or a note.

The moment she stepped inside, though, she sensed someone was home.

“Mr. Bradford?” she called out.

A muffled response came from the bedroom. Surprised, she told Cecilia to sit quietly on the sofa, then limped over.

“Sir, I just came to grab a few things, and then I’ll be on my way,” she started, carefully choosing her words. “Thank you and Mrs. Bradford for your kindness these past five years.”

Vance didn’t answer, which was definitely not normal. Usually, he would come out and talk to her.

“Sir, are you all right?” she probed.
