Rebecca was frantic, worried about Desmond.

If he got hurt, even in the face, he couldn’t finish the performance tour.

But Vance had gone feral; nothing she shouted reached him.

The two men were seconds from a full-blown brawl. In her desperation, she wedged herself between them and told Desmond, “Go back to the hotel.”

He didn’t move, refusing to leave her alone.

“Desmond, calm down!” she said sharply. “You can’t get hurt; even a scratch won’t do.”

He still had shows to perform in the next few days. Any injuries were unacceptable.

Her stance was steadfast, just like the old times. Desmond calmed a little, breathing hard and glaring at

Vance.

“Go,” she urged.

Desmond didn’t leave, but he stepped back. “I’ll stand right over there. Call me if you need help.”

Rebecca signaled Helia to pull him away, then released Vance’s arm.

Vance gave a cold laugh. “What? Afraid he’ll misunderstand us?”

“Not everyone is as filthy-minded as you!” she shot back.

“Filthy-minded?” he scoffed. “I flew halfway around the world for you, and all I get is ‘filthy’? You’re terrified he’ll get one little scratch, but when I…”

He almost said she never asked a thing when he was seriously sick. He bit it back, pointing at Desmond, too furious to speak.

“If you flew all the way to Europe just because I blocked you and your nonsense, you can turn around and go home,” Rebecca said evenly,

“I didn’t come to argue with you.” His eyes burned. “I came to take you home. Come home with me.”

He reached for her arm, but she stood still. “I’m not going back.”

She sounded distant, as if they had never known, never loved, and ever hated each other. 1

His pupils dilated with shock, and then rage surged. “Do you even hear yourself? You think I flew here so you can keep throwing tantrums? No wonder my friends always say I spoiled you rotten. You just don’t know when to stop!”

If requesting a divorce counted as a tantrum, then fine-call it one.

“Say whatever you want,” she said. “These past few days, I’ve been happier than any day in the last 20-
