plus years. Please, let me go. And let yourself go too.”

He should just leave and be together with his beloved Cathy.

Vance’s face flushed with shame. “Happier? You’ve known this pretty boy for what-a few days? And that’s already better than those five years with me?”

He pointed at Desmond, his voice shaking with fury. “Where did you put my money? Without it, could you even be this happy? And what about Josette? Does she mean nothing to you now?”

She remained composed. “Not everything in life is about sex, and Josette is fine. You’re just an outsider. Stay out of my family business.”

He was incredulous. “Outsider? Me?”

She countered, “Aren’t you? Your last name isn’t Perry.”

Chapter 269

The heated argument came to a sudden halt.

Vance paused, then murmured, “The Perrys never treated you half as well as I did.”

Rebecca’s eyes stung, and she gave a bitter laugh.

He was right. The Perry name had never given her any leverage, not even in an argument with him.

“But how can you miss something you never really had?” she said quietly.

She had never truly had him either. But at least, she had once been full of hope.

“I’ve said it so many times. I’m not throwing a tantrum or threatening you,” she sighed, not wanting to drag it out. “I really want a different life. For the rest of my days, I want to be happy. And I want you to be happy, too.”

The evening breeze off the Mediterranean carried the damp, heavy scent of inland water, making the air thick and suffocating.

He stared blankly, as if he no longer recognized the woman in front of him. His eyes churned with emotions he was fighting to keep down.

“Go back and read the divorce terms carefully. We’ll discuss them properly. Just stop following me,” she concluded, turning to leave.

Desmond and Helia hurried over, flanking her as they walked away.

The next day, they had to throw themselves fully into the performance, so tonight they took the free time to wander Venice’s winding streets and alleys.

Helia wanted a mask, so the four of them browsed shop after shop, comparing designs. In the end, Rebecca chose a Queen of Hearts, and Desmond picked a Night Knight.

They stepped outside and put the masks on, ready to take group photos. Rebecca suddenly noticed two extra figures reflected in Helia’s phone screen.

They were entering the angel-doll shop next door. Her smile froze while a familiar voice drifted out of the shop. “I don’t like any of these dolls. They’re not as pretty as the ones you gave me.”

Of course, they weren’t. The ones Vance had collected for her were all limited-edition handmade pieces, each one expensive.

Desmond heard the voice, too. Behind his mask, his eyes narrowed. “Let’s go.”

It was too late. Vance and Catherine walked out of the doll shop and ran straight into them.

Despite the mask, Vance recognized Rebecca instantly.

Rebecca almost laughed, realizing he had just brought Catherine on a romantic European vacation. How

nice! They had done the islands and now Europe.

What had last night’s little scene at the gondola dock even been about?

“Excuse us,” Desmond said in a low voice.

The alleys in Venice were narrow and packed with tourists. Vance stood motionless in the middle of the path, blocking everyone.

His eyes remained fixed on Rebecca. Catherine looked at him, then at the person opposite them.

“Wow, it’s Rebecca!” she exclaimed. “I almost didn’t recognize you. Only spotted you because of that limp:”

Desmond’s hand flew before anyone could react, slapping Catherine across the face.

She fell into Vance’s arms, a bright red handprint blooming on her cheek. She screamed, “You get your hands on a woman? Have you no shame?”

Vance immediately shielded her, glaring at Desmond. “Are you rabid?”

“Does it matter?” Desmond countered. “As far as I know, you and Rebecca are still legally married. So, what’s the situation now? Are you and your little side piece teaming up to bully your own wife?” 2
