Chapter 279
“What a shame!” Rebecca said.
“What?” Catherine demanded.
Rebecca’s grin widened. “Shame that you’re begging a cripple now.”
“Don’t make me laugh. I was Vance’s first love. I was gone for five years, and he still kept me in his heart, “Catherine countered. “The password to your apartment is my birthday. Did you forget that? Why would I ever beg you?”
Rebecca remained calm, her smile never faltering. “Is that so? Then why are you here pushing me to get a divorce?”
“I…” Catherine faltered, then burst out, “Vance doesn’t love you! A marriage without love is immoral.”
“Is it?” Rebecca scoffed. “Well, that’s better than being a home-wrecker.”
“You’re the home-wrecker!” Catherine snapped. “Vance and I were first loves. I went abroad, and you swooped in. You’re the other woman!”
“I have a marriage certificate.” Rebecca shrugged. “Our marriage is legitimate.”
Catherine’s voice cracked. “But you already proposed a divorce.”
“About that.” Rebecca tapped her chin. “I just changed my mind. I think I’ll keep the marriage after all.”
“I knew it!” Catherine shrieked. “You’re playing hard-to-get. You never wanted a divorce at all. You’re just using it to pull him away from me.”
Rebecca remained composed. “So what? What are you going to do about it?”
Catherine stamped her foot. “You are despicable!”
“And?” Rebecca smirked.
Catherine pointed at her. “I-I’m going to tell him!”
“So what?”
“Can you say something else?”
“Fine. Let’s talk about something else, then. Careful there, Cathy. You might want to tone down that spending on your trip. Remember? I could always reclaim every penny.”
“You are shameless!”
“You spend my husband’s money. Who is the real shameless one? Forget the marriage certificate? His money is our joint property.”
“Keep hugging that for the rest of your life!”

“Works for me. You can keep being his precious one. I don’t care.”
Rebecca stepped past her and headed back toward the theater.
“Come back here!” Catherine lunged at her.
Rebecca realized then that her rehabilitation hadn’t been for nothing. Her legs were far more stable now,
and her arms had real strength behind them.
She spun around and shoved hard. Catherine went sprawling to the ground, while she only wobbled slightly before catching her balance.
Her confidence surging, Rebecca strode toward the theater and left Catherine behind. Divorcing Vance would still go as planned, but she didn’t mind putting that woman in her place now.
Once inside the theater, she threw herself into work, too busy to think about those trashy people.
At 9:30 that evening, the performance finally ended. She exhaled, gathering her things.
The performers were still taking their bows on stage. She waited in the wings, deeply touched.
Desmond and Helia hadn’t performed a scene from a ballet. It was Butterfly Lovers that she used to
perform.
