Chapter 280

The finale ended, but the strains refused to fade..

The audience cheered, showing how much they loved the dance. Applause erupted again as Desmond

and Helia came out to take their bows.

They had perfectly recreated a few of the classic solo and duet moves from Butterfly Lovers, which earned great admiration from the audience.

Normally, the curtain call would have ended there. The audience was already moving toward the stage with flowers, but the music went on.

And then, new images appeared on the LCD screens flanking the stage. Rebecca froze, seeing her own performance of Butterfly Lovers from years ago.

The announcer’s microphone ended up in Desmond’s hands. He declared the show officially over, thanked the audience for their support, and said that a small ceremony would follow for those who wished to stay.

Rebecca blinked, wondering what he and Helia were up to.

“This dance we performed tonight is called Butterfly Lovers,” Desmond continued, briefly introducing the choreography and the music. “Thank you all for enjoying it. The choreographer and original performer of this piece is here tonight, and I’d like to invite her to the stage.”

As the music swelled, he stood in the spotlight and extended a hand toward her.

Rebecca had no idea what was happening. All she could see was his encouraging smile and the image of her younger self on the screen.

Lauren’s voice carried a hint of worry as she steadied Rebecca. “If you feel uncomfortable, you don’t have to go.”

Rebecca shook her head, indicating it was fine. She only felt grateful for all the days Desmond and Helia had spent helping her recover and retrain.

“I’m going up,” she said firmly, her eyes glittering.

Lauren teared up, clamping a hand over her mouth and nodding vigorously.

Rebecca wasn’t walking toward the rehearsal room or the rehab studio. This was a real stage-the one she had been torn away from five years ago.

She was limping, and Helia reached out to help. She only waved it off, moving straight toward the center of the stage.

The other performers cleared a path, letting her stand in the very middle. Desmond took her hand and announced, “This is Rebecca, a young dancer. The video playing now shows her original performance, which is now part of our academy’s teaching materials. Many of us have studied it since, but five years

ago, she had an accident and could no longer dance.”

A hush of sympathy swept through the audience.

“Today is her birthday.” Desmond’s eyes were bright and earnest. “And if possible, I’d like to invite her to dance this piece once more. I believe she can return to the stage.” (1

Cheers erupted. Some guests paused from leaving and started clapping for what was unfolding on stage. In the audience, one person sat motionless, staring intently at the screen as the footage played.

A voice whispered, “Have you ever seen her dance before?”
