Chapter 284
Jenny sent a screenshot of Vance’s entire feed. There was no timestamp, and it was clean, except for one single post.
Actually, there had been more. He had just deleted everything else.
But none of it was anything to be proud of, so Rebecca brushed it off with a vague reply. Jenny sensed her reluctance to talk about Vance and dropped it gracefully.
Jenny: [Just be happy. Everything else should go away.]
Rebecca smiled, sending a thank-you and a big virtual hug. She slept like a baby that night.
The next morning, the troupe bustled onto the boat to leave Venice.
Everyone was hauling gear on the dock. Rebecca couldn’t manage heavy loads, but she always pitched in with lighter props and made sure her own suitcase wasn’t anyone else’s problem.
As she pushed her rolling bag toward the gangway, a hand took it from her grip.
Her first instinct was robbery. She almost yelled, then saw Vance’s face.
He didn’t say a word, just carried the suitcase to the designated luggage area. Feeling a tug on her sleeve, Rebecca turned to see the same dancer who’d delivered the gift bag the night before.
The girl pointed at Vance and whispered, “That’s him! The guy who asked me to give you the present.”
Rebecca smiled softly. “I know. Thank you.”
The girl grinned. “No big deal. I’m boarding now.”
She skipped onto the boat and waved at Vance coming back down. He helped her with her suitcase, and
Rebecca reached the deck.
The summer morning in Venice was already scorching, without even a breath of wind. He stood by the water’s edge, perfectly still-nothing like the furious man from their last few run-ins.
She tried to walk past him onto the boat, but he caught her hand gently. “So desperate to avoid me? Can’t
even spare one word?”
His voice was quiet, almost lost in the morning haze.
She pulled her hand free. “We’re on a tight schedule. Can’t keep everyone waiting.”
Vance nodded slowly, “Is this really the life you want?”
“Huh?”
“I mean, it looks exhausting. Running around like this, with no one even helping with your suitcase, let alone the heavy stuff. Wouldn’t it be easier if you let me take care of you?”

So, that was what he meant.
“Yes, this is what I want,” she answered honestly. “These past weeks have been the happiest time of my life. I’m not saying it to spite you. I’m genuinely happy.”
Vance smiled, something lighter flickering in his eyes. “I can see that. So…”
He paused, his gaze drifting to the horizon. “So, I’m heading back now.”
“Okay.” She nodded, remembering the gift. “Hold on. Let me get the necklace back to you.”
“No,” he said quietly. “What’s given is given.”
“If
you
don’t take it back, I’ll sell it at a resale shop.”
“Then sell it. At least, it will do somebody some good.”
“You…”
He pulled her into a quick, gentle hug-just a brush of warmth before he let go.
“Take good care of yourself. Bye.”
