Chapter 298
Rebecca ran next door and knocked while sending the video.
“Gabriel, it’s me,” she called out. “Open up! I have news.”
Gabriel wasn’t in his room, but his call came almost immediately.
“Where did this video come from?”
“Someone sent it to me and demanded $30 million. Where are you? You’re not in your room? I’m going to call the police.”
“I’m out handling something. I’ve received the video and will deal with it. You can go to the police station. Hugo is already on his way to pick you up; he’ll be there soon. Stay in your room and wait.” Gabriel laid everything out clearly and calmly. “I will bring Josette home. Trust me.”
“Okay,” she agreed, staying to wait for Hugo.
The man arrived fast. Following Gabriel’s instructions, he took her straight to the police station.
The second she handed over the video, the officers’ expressions changed. They immediately escalated and started moving.
The last bit of her strength drained away.
More waiting? Waiting for the police to trace the IP and the registered owner. Waiting for Wade to pinpoint the building.
Every minute stretched into eternity; she quickly learned that waiting wasn’t the worst part. The most painful thing was seeing hope, then falling back into the abyss of disappointment.
The police traced the IP to an address, identified the WhatsApp account, and gave a name she had never heard of.
They went straight to the door. Opening it was a man in his fifties.
He claimed someone had borrowed his phone. “He connected it to his laptop and messed around for a minute.”
His eyes darted, and under pressure, he admitted he had been paid 10,000 dollars in cash. When they asked him about the person, he said it was a decent-looking young man in his early twenties.
Every lead pointed to Emmett.
The police issued a warning and continued their investigation.
Now, neither Gabriel, Hugo, nor the officers thought Rebecca should stay at the station. It served no
purpose.
With disappointment and anxiety, she returned to the hotel.

Gabriel still wasn’t back by the afternoon. She had no idea what he was doing, but every second felt like
an hour.
Finally, Vivian’s message came with the coordinates: [Found it.]
Rebecca was relieved and impressed by Wade’s skills. She immediately forwarded it to Gabriel, then called the police station and reported the address.
His call came right after.
“I’m almost there. You don’t need to come.”

“You already know where she is? Have you seen her? How is she?”
“Not yet, but I’m close. Stay at the hotel.”
“Who took her? Did you see them? Is it…”
She couldn’t bring herself to say the names. She didn’t want to believe her own family could be that
monstrous.
He paused, getting her implication. “Yes.”
She gave a bitter laugh, her blood running cold.
It was undeniable that her parents and Emmett had taken Josette, but she had still clung to the hope that it was only greed. At best, they’d use Josette to squeeze cash out of her.
She had never imagined they would torture Josette. She couldn’t picture how much Josette had suffered at the hands of those three animals.
