“Yeah.” Derek pulled out a velvet tray of samples. “Every pair sold out. Customers used to beg her to take more orders, but she always refused. Now she’s suddenly open to it, and there’s already a long waiting list. I told them the mysterious designer wasn’t accepting new clients. Figured I’d square up with her today.”
Gabriel Perry looked at the exquisite purple-diamond cufflinks in his hand; his eyes grew even darker.
Rebecca had no idea what was happening in the lounge. She stepped out in a champagne gown, walking a little stiffly with the assistant’s help.
“How do i look?” she asked, self-conscious.
It was her classic color-gentle, elegant, and safe.
“Beautiful,” Gabriel said, studying her. “But it’s not even close to what I had in mind.”
He glanced at Derek, who instructed the assistant, “Queen of the ballroom. Bring the vintage burgundy.”
The moment the gown was brought out, Rebecca’s breath caught.
The red was breathtaking. Not loud or cheap, it was deep, shadowed, and aristocratic. The vintage cut, the regal lines, and the low neckline promised fire with the right jewels.
Gabriel nodded with satisfaction, but before he could urge her to try it, a shriek cut through from the
entrance.
“Wow, that gown is gorgeous! Sonia, can I have it?”

The speaker made a beeline for the gown. Of course, it was Catherine Welch, freezing at the sight of
Rebecca.
A dozen questions crossed her mind, but she quickly pasted on a smile. “Rebecca? Didn’t expect to see you here.”
Rebecca’s gaze slid past her to Sonia Hodge. Aiden’s wife was shopping with Catherine?
She had never liked Aiden, but she was cool with Sonia. For five years, they’d barely crossed paths, but Sonia was one of the few people who had shown her real kindness.
Not long after the wedding, she had gone to the company and overheard Vance’s disgust for her injured leg. Heartbroken, she had run out and almost collided with Sonia at the elevator entrance.
Back then, Sonia was a staff member and hadn’t yet married Aiden. Sonia had steadied her, seen her tears, and pulled her into a hug, quietly asking if she wanted to sit in the break room for a while.
She had declined, and Sonia had pressed a piece of chocolate into her hand without saying anything else. The characters on the wrapping read: [Stay Happy!]

separate ways after collecting their clothes.
Each time, Sonia would offer a soft smile. That small gesture of kindness was one of the few bright
spots she had seen in the past five years.
Rebecca could never resent her. But why in the world was Sonia here with Catherine?
Nevertheless, she gave the same gentle smile Sonia had once given her.
At that point, Catherine was already communicating with the assistant. “I’d like to try on this gown. Thank you.” [1
