Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 328

Chapter 328

For once, Rebecca and Sonia exchanged genuine compliments.

When Sonia finally gathered her gown to leave, she paused at the door. “Sorry, I didn’t know you were here. Aiden asked me to bring her, so I did.”

Rebecca shook her head. “No worries. It was not your fault.”

A hint of melancholy flickered in Sonia’s eyes, but in the end, she smoothed it away with a smile. “Are you going to the banquet tomorrow night?”

“Yes.” Rebecca nodded.

She would not be attending as Vance’s wife but as Gabriel’s cousin.

“See you then.” Sonia’s smile still carried a trace of sadness as she left.

Rebecca understood that look. Sonia couldn’t be truly happy with Aiden. They were not the same kind of people at all.

Back then, she’d been young, striking, and brilliant. As VP of the company, Aiden had chased her hard,

and she had fallen for it. A big mistake!

Rebecca had never really wanted to clash with Catherine, but the latter wouldn’t stop provoking her. Today counted as her victory, but it was not something glorious.

She looked at her reflection in the mirror, feeling too raw to go to Gabriel and ask his opinion about the

new gown.

Arguing with Vance’s mistress in public and exposing the ugliness of her marriage was shameful. Even though Gabriel already knew her marriage was unhappy, this was humiliation in full color.

Gabriel appeared behind her, lifted a necklace from the display case, and fastened it around her neck. Needs jewelry to complete the picture. Hair up completely. Hmm, missing earrings. I’ll have Hugo source them. He’s got impeccable taste in gems.”

Rebecca was confused because he had just questioned Hugo’s taste earlier.

“Clothes, maybe not. Jewelry? Different story,” he explained, reading her mind. “In any case, just buy the most expensive. This gown needs the most expensive jewelry to match it.”

Rebecca knew he was backing her up. Her throat tightened, and her head lowered. “Gabriel…”

“It’s okay.” He gathered her long hair, twisting it into a loose chignon. In the mirror, her features looked sharper and more vivid. “Today was a pleasant surprise. I thought you were a little lamb. Turns out she’s a baby leopard.”

This gown did look better with an updo. But lambs and leopards? She was almost 30, not a child

anymore.

“I made a spectacle,” she murmured, her eyes stinging.

It wasn’t because of Vance or Catherine. She just remembered what he had told her before: “In front of me, you’ll always be a child.”

“Yep!” Derek bounced over.

Rebecca’s stomach sank; she knew how blunt this man could be.

He continued, “That woman was comedy gold! What a disaster! Gabriel was two seconds from exploding. I had to hold him back, telling him you could handle it. He didn’t believe me.”

She blinked, realizing he was talking about Catherine. The embarrassment wasn’t hers.

He read her mind. “Please, you’re not a joke. If I laughed at you, Gabriel would tear me down. No kidding. 1 want to stay alive.”
