Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 331

Chapter 331

“Oh, he is right behind us,” Aiden replied with a smooth grin.

“Your almost-ex does have some pull in town,” Gabriel whispered.

Rebecca glanced at him, and he shrugged. “On raw strength alone, this deal should have been theirs. No contest. It’s a shame that…”

“So, family over fairness?” she said quietly.

She might be soft-hearted, but she wasn’t blind. No way was she letting Gabriel pour money into a nest of vipers.

He met her eyes. “Whether that company survives or implodes is literally one sentence from you.”

She looked at the high-spirited group in front of her, lost in thought.

Gabriel added meaningfully, “Skyscrapers take years to raise from nothing, but gravity only needs a

heartbeat to bring them down.”

They stood shoulder to shoulder, whispering like conspirators because no one in the room had clocked them. But the private commentary died fast because people who did know them had just arrived.

The five people approached in a noisy wave, greeting the other guests along the way. They halted at the sight of Rebecca and Gabriel.

“Rebecca!” Isabelle called out.

Rebecca offered a polite smile. “Isabelle.”

In truth, they had barely crossed paths. She had even less contact with Isabelle than with Sonia. The sudden enthusiasm surprised her.

“You arrived early. Come join us,” Isabelle said.

She had a reputation around the office. Unlike Sonia, she was bold and straightforward. At home, Lucas

was the obedient one.

Seeing Rebecca hesitate, she extended her hand. “Come on. Vance will be here any minute. We’re all friends here.”

Rebecca wasn’t used to the instant inclusion, and technically, she wasn’t close to any of them. Just as she was about to decline, Catherine stepped forward, “Isabelle…”

“Hang on. Don’t interrupt us,” Isabelle said without blinking.

Her bluntness couldn’t be taken lightly.

Catherine and the guys had been classmates, while Isabelle and Sonia were younger. The guys might pamper Catherine, but Isabelle refused to play along.

Catherine’s face flushed with embarrassment, and her eyes shimmered with grievance.

Isabelle couldn’t stand it. “This is a big night. Don’t pull your pitiful act. Make a fool of yourself as you like, but spare us.”

When her temper flared, even Lucas didn’t dare say a word. Sonia pretended not to hear anything, but Aiden looked annoyed.

“Lucas, keep your wife in line,” he sulked.

Isabelle rounded on him like a guided missile. “Excuse me? Don’t you think you meddle too much? Mind your own business.”

Rebecca fought the urge to laugh, never realizing Isabelle could be this blunt. Aiden and Lucas were jerks, but their wives were so nice.

Catherine’s tears evaporated, and Aiden swallowed his anger. He was vice president, representing the company. Arguing with Isabelle would affect its image.
