Chapter 334
Isabelle added, “Behavior like this is insufferable. Lucas swears he was just helping out. Bullshit. I’m not blind. I don’t know how deep he’s in with her, but since I found out, I can’t ignore it. Anyway, be careful.”
It occurred to Rebecca that Lucas seemed to have joined their gatherings less often. Only Vance and Aiden kept up the old routine.
Anyway, Lucas had been part of it when they mocked and hurt her. She could separate Isabelle from him, but she couldn’t forget the humiliation.
Across the room, Catherine was deep in conversation with the ladies.
“They’re all from small tech companies. Executives and their wives. They all have dealings with Vance,” Isabelle whispered. “She acts like the spokesperson. Showoff.”
The women were fawning over Catherine, stroking her ego.
Catherine played coy. “Oh, I’m just the executive assistant. I don’t really call the shots.”
Rebecca clicked her tongue. Executive assistant? Keep bragging, and Vance’s entire net worth might land in Catherine’s account.
Catherine was nervous deep down. After dropping the line, she stole a glance at Rebecca, saw no reaction, and relaxed.
Truthfully, running into Rebecca made her stomach twist. The man who’d locked her in that basement
knew all her secrets.
If Rebecca knew even half of them… But she didn’t seem to. Otherwise, she’d have humiliated Catherine
publicly already.
Catherine’s eyes skimmed past Gabriel. Pretty men weren’t her target; only rich older women chased
looks.
According to Aiden, this man was Rebecca’s cousin who’d popped up out of nowhere. In her mind, the Perrys were all trash. Rebecca’s parents and brother were losers, and her cousin couldn’t be any better.
“Miss Welch, once the Rossi deal closes, we’ll all ride your coattails!” said an executive from a smaller firm with an obsequious smile.
“Oh, it’s not settled yet.” Catherine waved her hand, but the smugness on her face never died.
“No suspense. Rossi needs Soliaridge’s strongest tech player. Who else could it be? Just don’t forget us when you’re swimming in success,” the executive said.
“No way.” Catherine’s grin widened. “But yeah, it’s pretty much locked in. We indeed have a great relationship with the new successor.”
“Really? That’s huge!”

“Actually, it’s my connection. Rossi is headquartered in Europe, and I used to study there, going to the same school as him. Mr. Rossi Jr. was the campus star and a senior. You know how it is: U.S. students stick together. We did labs together and often hung out.”
“Wow! So, it’s your pull!”
“Exactly! Why else would he choose Soliaridge for his new branch? I did all the persuasions.”
Rebecca’s jaw dropped at those words. She turned to look at Gabriel.
