Chapter 345
Rebecca kept her faint, polite smile. “Thank you.”
It was the same response she gave to every compliment at the banquet,
“Becky, come here,” Gabriel called from steps away.
She nodded slightly and started toward him.
“Rebecca!” Vance grabbed her arm.
“Mr. Bradford, Gabriel is meeting his friends tonight,” she said, growing impatient. “If you have any business matters to discuss, please contact Hugo during office hours.”
Her tone was coldly professional and distant.
His throat tightened. “What did you just call me? Mr. Bradford?”
She shrugged. “What else?”
She had called him that many times before. Besides, what other appellations did they even have left? She had always called him Vance or Mr. Bradford, and he had called her by her name all this time.
After their wedding, she had shyly tried calling him “honey”, like other wives did. He had flinched and said, “Just use my name.”
From then on, that was all she had ever called him. And now he was upset about it.
He kept his grip on her wrist. “Becky…”
“Wait,” she cut in. “The nickname is only for my family. Outsiders shouldn’t use it.”
His pupils contracted. “Outsider? I’m an outsider to you now?”
“Aren’t you?” She tried yanking her arm free. “I don’t want to discuss our private matters here. Remember what I said about Josette being discharged? Tomorrow morning at nine. I’ll meet you at the courthouse.”
“Rebecca!” He tightened his hold, refusing to let go.
“Mr. Bradford.” Gabriel stepped in, prying Vance’s fingers off one by one. “Rebecca is leaving you the last bit of dignity. Otherwise, tonight would have been far more humiliating.”
Vance’s face went deathly pale. He involuntarily released her hand and watched helplessly as Gabriel escorted her away.
The crowd around him drifted away. He staggered back in defeat. The only people left beside him were Aiden and Catherine.
“Vance, what’s wrong?” Catherine saw how pale he looked and rushed to steady him. “Aiden, help him. He doesn’t look well.”

Together, they helped him to a side table and sat him down.
“Man, how are you feeling?” Aiden asked.
Vance gave a bitter laugh. “Rebecca asked me to meet her at the courthouse tomorrow to finalize the divorce.”
Aiden gritted his teeth. “How heartless! She lived off you for five years without a shred of gratitude. Now that you need her help, she wants a divorce. As I said from the beginning, she is bad luck.”
“Enough,” Vance cut him off.
“We still need her help right now,” Aiden sighed. “Maybe Sonia can…”
Only then did he notice Sonia was gone. He cursed, “That ingrate! Every last one of them is disloyal!”
He texted her: [Where are you? Your mom’s still in the hospital. Do I need to keep paying the bills?]
There was no reply.
“Unbelievable!” He looked ready to smash his phone.
“What are we going to do?” Catherine started crying again. “Is this because of me? I should never have come back. If I just disappeared, would things be better?”
Vance remained silent.
