Rebecca steadied herself, her gaze icy cold. “We’ve known each other for 12 years. In your eyes, I probably have nothing but flaws, but I forgot to mention one more. I have a serious cleanliness obsession.”
Vance was stunned. “You think I’m dirty?”
“Didn’t I already tell you?” She remembered clearly that she had said it to his face.
Didn’t he know the answer?
Vance suddenly felt powerless, having no confidence to deny it.
“Rebecca…” He grabbed her wrist, but the moment her gaze landed on his hand, he let go.
The disdain in her eyes made him flinch, but he refused to step aside. “Is there any chance for us to start over?”
She stayed silent, then muttered, “Only if we could go back to when we were 16.”
Back then, he had been her whole world. Nothing bad had happened between them, and they hadn’t met anyone else.
Now the wealth he possessed could buy almost anything, but he could not turn back time. Despair was the only thing left in his eyes.
When she tried to leave again, he couldn’t stop her.
The driver, noticing she had been inside for a long time, had come in to escort her out. With that build, the man looked more like a bodyguard than a simple driver.
“I don’t agree to the divorce,” Vance murmured. “Go ahead and file the lawsuit.”
She paused, saying curtly, “Understood.”
“Rebecca!” Vance called after her, trying to say more, but everything condensed into that single desperate shout.
She seemed like a soulless shell. No matter what he said, she remained unmoved.
She hadn’t been like this before. She would get angry, but even then, she couldn’t bear to ignore him or
raise her voice.
She would simply look at him with those big, doe-like eyes full of hurt, then quietly swallow the pain.
She would be happy. Even if he did nothing special, the mere sight of him would light her up. Sometimes, he didn’t even understand what she was happy about.
That was the woman who had loved him-the one he had known for 12 years. He had thought she would remain that way forever and thus had taken everything for granted.

His phone kept ringing. It was Lucas, urging him to come back for a meeting, but he just stood frozen in
place.
“What the hell is going on with you two?” Lucas grumbled. “Doesn’t the company matter anymore? Or is it suddenly just mine?”
Vance made it back to the office, but Lucas’s life didn’t become any easier.
After the meeting, he complained again, “What were you two even doing in there? Especially you, Vance. So many decisions needed your input as the CEO, but you were spaced out.”
Vance rubbed his face.
“Come on, say something,” Lucas pressed. “Do you still want the company or not? Two major partnerships are coming up for renewal. I’ve been negotiating, but their interest is fading. They’re waiting to see what Rossi Enterprises does. If Rossi decides to compete with us, we might lose the deals.”
He was stressed, but the other two were still not themselves.
Finally, Vance’s eyes slid back to focus. He muttered, “Why exactly do we work so hard?”
“I don’t know about you guys, but for me, it’s to give Izzy and our baby a good life,” Lucas replied.
