“Don’t bother,” Rebecca answered without turning around. “Even if we cross paths someday, let’s pretend we never knew each other at all.”
“Rebecca…” Vance’s voice cracked, but she had already climbed into the car and was pulling away.
The grief he had held back for so long finally crashed over him. His vision blurred until he could barely see anything around him.
He leaned heavily against his car, struggling to steady himself.
At least during the goodbye, he had managed to keep his composure and demonstrate the best version of himself.
A sudden cry cut through the haze. “Vance!”
He quickly turned his face away to hide his tears.
“Vance, are you crying?” Catherine felt both shocked and lost.
After a moment, Vance composed himself and turned back. His face showed nothing.
Aiden and Catherine stood a few feet away.
Aiden clapped him on the shoulder. “It’s over. Life moves on to the next chapter. Let it go.”
Vance said nothing.
“We came to pick you up,” Catherine said, reaching for his sleeve. “Come on, let’s sit down and talk.”
Vance pulled his arm free. “You guys go ahead. I still have things to handle.”
“What kind of things?” She frowned. “You’re free now.”
“I’m heading to the bank to sort some matters.” He opened the car door and got in.
“Vance!” she called out again, but he had already started the engine and driven away.
Watching the car disappear down the street, she stamped her foot. “He’s really going to give every penny to Rebecca, isn’t he?”
“You bet,” Aiden said with a dark chuckle. “His savings, investments-everything. He even bought back the shares at the last shareholder meeting and cashed them out for her.”
“What about all those properties? I know he just bought another villa,” Catherine grumbled.
“Every single one is already in her name. No transfer needed,” he laughed mockingly. “He has been stupidly generous with money in the past five years.”
Resentment flashed in her eyes, but he just grinned at her. “Don’t make that face. You’re supposed to be the girl who only wants true love, not money. Keep the act up in front of him.”

She rolled her eyes, and he continued, “Stop sulking. The only person to blame is yourself. Who told you to run off five years ago? If you had just stuck it out a little longer, everything would have been yours.”
That only made her angrier.
“Easy there,” he warned, patting her belly with a nasty smile. “Don’t get worked up. We can’t have anything happen to that baby. Otherwise, you’ll walk away with nothing.”
She slapped his hand away in disgust.
Vance spent almost the entire day at the bank straightening out his assets. Whatever could be transferred went to Rebecca that afternoon; the rest was scheduled for the next day.
As the balance hit zero, it felt like his first half of life had been wiped clean. His future suddenly had no direction.
After leaving the bank, he sat in his car, feeling lost for a long while before driving to the house where Darren’s parents lived.
He had been stopping by every few days lately and had hired a cleaning crew to tidy and disinfect the place from top to bottom.
The overgrown weeds had been cleared, and the whole house had been thoroughly cleaned. Darren’s parents had sorted out what they wanted to keep. It finally looked like a real home again.
