Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 404

Chapter 404

It read: [Mrs. Bradford Sr., please get better. Vance only has you now.]

It was Rebecca’s distinctive style-plump, round letters that always looked innocently cute. It was nothing like Catherine’s sharp script.

Staring at the two slips of paper side by side, he felt his heart drop, sinking deeper and deeper into a bottomless abyss. He had lost far more than he had ever imagined.

He finally broke down sobbing. “Rebecca, I’m so sorry.”

He sat motionless in the silent office. The whole world felt eerily quiet. If this could be the end of time, it would have been a mercy.

He no longer looked forward to another sunrise. But the night dragged on-endless and black, just like his life.

He stayed there without moving until morning, when Aiden and Catherine arrived.

“Vance, did you spend the whole night here?” Catherine burst in, then spotted the papers in his hand.

Before she could get a closer look, he slipped them away.

His shirt collar hung open, dark stubble shadowed his jaw, and deep, bruised circles ringed his eyes. He looked at her with a cool, thin gaze.

She faltered. “How are you doing?”

He stared at her without answering, making her squirm.

Her voice trembled with guilt. “Tell me what is wrong. If the divorce is hitting you hard, we can keep you company.”

“I’m fine,” he said, the sharpness vanishing from his eyes. “I was just trying to fold a few paper cranes and couldn’t remember how. Even the video tutorials weren’t helping.”

Catherine’s eyes darted left and right. “Why would you suddenly want to fold paper cranes?”

“Oh, I’m planning to visit my grandmother’s grave,” he replied smoothly. “I’ve been doing so badly. I must have let her down, so I thought some cranes might cheer her up.”

Mentioning his grandmother made Catherine even more nervous; her smile slipped.

“Right, you know how,” he continued, pulling out a stack of printer paper and tossing it on the desk.” Teach me.”

“Uh, it’s been so many years,” Catherine stammered, hiding her hands behind her back. “I don’t remember anymore.”

He nodded. “Fair enough.”
