Chapter 405
True to his words, Vance was moving out.
After finishing what he needed to do that morning and at lunch, he called a moving company and had them empty the entire marital home he had shared with Rebecca.
There were plenty of expensive items inside-appliances, décor, and kitchenware. When the movers asked what to take, he told them to leave it all behind.
He stood in the middle of the house and saw traces of Rebecca’s life everywhere. She had been with him for five years, embedding herself into every corner of his existence and pinning her whole future on him.
“I’ll pack this room myself,” he said hoarsely. “You handle the rest.”
In the end, he was the one carefully boxing up Rebecca’s things while the movers stood around awkwardly.
He blinked. “Are you guys done?”
“Uh, you told us to leave everything,” one mover explained.
He froze, then sighed. “Give me a few minutes. There should be snacks and drinks in the kitchen. Help yourselves.”
The movers exchanged confused glances, eager to explain to him about their business. They had never had a client who insisted on packing everything himself while they lounged around eating snacks.
Vance gathered every item that had belonged to Rebecca. She had already sold most of her clothes, bags, and jewelry; what remained were only the toiletries she no longer wanted, some books, and a few miscellaneous items. It all fit into just a few boxes.
He packed almost nothing of his own-only a change of clothes and the shirts that carried the cufflinks Rebecca had designed for him. The movers handled the study room.
He gave it one final check and noticed several sheets of paper scattered on the floor-French notes and vocabulary from when Rebecca had been practicing for her exams.
“Sir, we thought those were trash. There are more in the bag,” a mover said apologetically, pointing at a garbage bag.
Vance opened the bag and found more pages covered in her handwriting. He pulled every single one out, smoothed them carefully, and placed them neatly into the box.
The movers, thinking they had thrown away something important, apologized awkwardly. “Sir, we didn’t know they were useful. We’re sorry.”
“That’s fine,” Vance said quietly. “It was my mistake. We’re good now. Let’s load up.”
He had them take everything to the hotel that would be his temporary home. From the safe box, he took

the gold bars and all the property deeds, packing them into a rolling suitcase that went straight into the
trunk of his car.
Everything else was tossed into the trash.
Over the past two days, Rebecca had received several huge wire transfers-Vance’s entire savings. When the second enormous deposit hit her account, she was quietly finishing packing her things.
Gabriel had already booked the flights according to his schedule. In just a few days, they would travel across the ocean to join Kaitlyn.
