But now, Catherine didn’t really have a choice. Nevertheless, Aiden took her with him that night.
When they arrived, Catherine realized the person Aiden was meeting was a stranger-a young man who looked even younger than Vance or Aiden, with a baby face that made him appear harmless.
“This is Mr. Wade Nolan.” Aiden introduced them to each other. “And this is…”
Wade glanced at Catherine and grinned. “Oh, I know her. Mr. Bradford’s beloved confidante.”
That was awkward. Even someone as quick-witted as Aiden didn’t know how to pick up the conversation.
“Mr. Nolan, hello. I’m actually good friends with Mr. Bradford and Mr. Hodge,” Catherine tried, unsure whether the man was insulting her or just trying to sound more friendly.
But Wade didn’t let her finish. He stood up and said, “Mr. Hodge, it seems this partnership won’t work out after all.”
His words took the pair by surprise.
Aiden jumped in. “Mr. Nolan, we had a deal. Why are you suddenly backing out now?”
Wade’s smile stayed disarmingly sweet. “Have you forgotten? We are supposed to be cooperating with Mr. Rossi. Our people will eventually have to face him directly. Your presence could be explained as switching sides for business interests. But don’t you know who Mr. Rossi hates the most?”
Catherine’s expression shifted. Recently, she had barely dared leave the house alone. Everywhere she went, she clung to Aiden, freaking out at the mere mention of that name.
It was like a ghost breathing down her neck. She had always wondered why he hadn’t exposed her past yet. The longer he stayed quiet, the more it felt like a blade dangling over her head, ready to fall at any second.
When Wade mentioned Rossi, it filled her with dread, and Aiden forced an unnatural smile.
Wade kept going. “Everyone knows how much Mr. Rossi values his cousin, while Mr. Bradford and Miss Welch are the ones who hurt her the deepest. If not for legal constraints, he’d probably want to chop them up. Yet you dare bring her here? That only shows you can’t even protect yourself. I only considered working with you because you’re on the opposite side of Vance. Don’t drag me down with you.”
Catherine panicked and blurted out, “Mr. Nolan, you’ve misunderstood. I have nothing to do with Vance Bradford, I’m with Mr. Hodge here.”
“Shut up!” Aiden snapped, his harsh tone making her flinch.
She had been pampered by the three men ever since returning to the country. No one had ever spoken to her so harshly. Even when Vance’s attitude had cooled, he had only been distant and never yelled at her.
But Wade understood what she had left unsaid. He reminded her, “You seem to have forgotten the

trending topic scandal. Almost everyone in Soliaridge still remembers it clearly. People’s memories aren’t that short. Back then, photos of you and Vance Bradford in bed were all over the internet. Do you honestly think Mr. Rossi would trust either of you?”
“I’m already done with him,” she explained desperately. “I’m even…”
“I said shut up!” Aiden barked, cold ruthlessness in his eyes sending a shiver down her spine.
She suddenly realized something with painful clarity: Aiden was nothing like Vance. He was a vicious dog. If he could treat his wife so cruelly, how could she expect him to treat her any differently?
