“Is it so bad to be with me?” Aiden asked with a sleazy smile. “If you can’t handle Vance, you’re stuck with me. At least, you’ll never have to worry about food or money.”
“What do you mean by that?” Catherine asked warily.
“What do you think?” he asked back. “You’re not hoping to become my wife, are you?”
“No way!” She slammed her glass down. “I’ll never marry a scumbag like you!”
She knew better than anyone how chaotic his love life was. He had zero standards. From college girls to bar escorts, he rotated through every type.
How could she possibly marry someone like him?
Aiden looked offended. “I’m willing to take you even after everything, and you’re looking down on me? Go ahead. Walk out of this restaurant and see who protects you. Vance, or Rossi? He only wants you dead.” Furious but trapped, she sat back down.
Aiden poured himself a cup of tea. “Since that’s the case, we might as well act sooner rather than later.” She eyed him warily. “What are you planning? You’re not thinking of hurting Vance, are you?”
He gave her a sideways glance. “Vance only knows how to chase romance every day. How could he ever do big things?”
“Y-You’re terrifying!” She was stunned. “I thought you two were best friends.”
“Best friends?” He burst out laughing. “Would best friends betray each other?”
She sat frozen in her chair, feeling like she had never known the man in front of her.
“What?” Aiden sneered. “You still think you’re some pure, innocent fantasy to him?”
“I…” She gritted her teeth. “I’m nothing like you.”
“No?” he laughed coldly. “You’re not the same as me when you ran off five years ago while he was at rock bottom? You’re not the same when you claimed to love him and then jumped straight into my bed? You’re not the same when you got pregnant with my kid and tried to pin it on him?”
“T-That was all your idea!” she protested.
“My idea wouldn’t have worked if you hadn’t gone along with it,” he shot back. “Did your pants fall off by themselves?”
She slumped into her chair, at a loss for words. “Then… What about Lucas?”
“Just a loyal little tag-along, every bit as pathetic as Vance,” he snorted.
Her eyes glittered with dark calculation. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll go tell him everything?”

“Go ahead.” He shrugged with a sly smile. “We’re on the same boat. Do you really think Vance would forgive you if you told him?”
She fell silent, and he added, “Stop fooling yourself. He only loves the fantasy of you. He’s just too proud to admit he lost.”
He pushed a bowl of soup toward her. “Eat up, and don’t be reckless. In this world, only I truly understand you. We’re the same kind. Your fate is tied to mine, whether you like it or not.”
She paused. “Then will you get a divorce?”
He shrugged. “Of course. Now eat. I’ve got plans tonight.”
She insisted, “I’m coming with you.”
“You’re pregnant and still want to tag along?” he said impatiently. “What’s with that look? It’s the same way Sonia stares at me. You think I’m going to see another woman?”
“What else could it be?” She was falling apart inside and full of regret.
At this point, there seemed to be no way out except locking herself to Aiden. This wasn’t what she had planned at all.
She had only wanted to be with Vance. How could a playboy like Aiden ever compare to him?
