Chapter 417

Catherine’s tearful, nasal voice drifted out. “Lucas, have you come to rescue me? I knew it. You’re the only good one. The other two are so awful!”

She opened the door and froze. Outside, Lucas was standing beside Sonia, with a dozen burly men

behind them.

“Lucas…” she whined, disregarding everything.

“Cathy, I…” Lucas faltered.

He knew Isabelle disliked Catherine, and he also knew there had always been something ambiguous between Vance and Catherine.

But he had been best friends with both of them for years. People

sense of right and wrong could be double-standard. No matter what, the four of them had shared many years of friendship. Coming here in person to evict her still made him feel terrible.

His understanding of their relationships was still stuck in the past. He had no idea how drastically the other three had changed, even dismissing Aiden’s threat to cut ties as mere angry words.

He didn’t realize they could never go back.

Catherine covered her face. Tears streamed between her fingers.

“Lucas…” she murmured pitifully, trying to throw herself into his arms.

Isabelle’s explosive warning suddenly echoed in his mind: “If you get fooled by her fake tears and pitiful act again, don’t bother coming home!”

His heart tightened, and he quickly stepped aside. Catherine couldn’t stop her momentum and stumbled forward, crashing into one of the moving workers’ chests instead.

The guy jumped in surprise, quickly steadying her. “Are you all right?”

She shot Lucas a resentful look. “Lucas, what are you doing?”

Lucas didn’t dare meet her eyes. His face flushed red. “Let’s talk nicely. Don’t cry.”

Sonia kept her face straight, speaking to the crew. “Let’s get started.”

Those men immediately poured into the house.

“What are you doing?” Catherine tried to block them.

“Didn’t Aiden tell you?” Sonia said coldly. “This house is our marital property. The court awarded it to me, and I’m here to take it back. Please leave.”

Catherine refused to budge, shouting, “No, this is my place! Everything inside belongs to me! Leave now, or I’m calling the police! This is trespassing and robbery!”

“By court order. Go inside,” Sonia said calmly.

Catherine couldn’t stop so many people alone. She talked about calling the police, but she didn’t dare actually do it.

Aiden had warned her against causing trouble. If the police got involved, he would tear her apart.

“Pack everything up,” Sonia ordered once inside. “Sell what can be sold and throw away the rest. None of it stays.”

“No, you can’t do this! Those are all my things!” Catherine protested.

But all her efforts to stop them were in vain. She turned to Lucas and pleaded desperately, “Lucas, help me! Aren’t we best friends? Please help me stop them…”

His heart twisted into knots. Both Aiden and Catherine were important to him, but Isabelle was his wife. If he defended Catherine today, he would never be able to explain it to Isabelle.

Why did he have to make such an impossible choice? But he couldn’t bear to see Catherine’s tearful, broken state either.

Finally, he tried negotiating with Sonia. “How about letting her pack her important things first? Let her take her documents and anything personal. Once she’s done, you can handle the rest.”
