Chapter 421
Lucas left her there without even offering to walk her upstairs, simply telling her to find a job or go look
for Vance.
“Find Vance?” Catherine gave a bitter smile.
At this point, he must have figured out something. Otherwise, why would he suddenly vanish when they were about to get married?
She had already tried on the wedding dress, but he hadn’t called or even texted her. That didn’t make any sense, yet she was now at the end of her rope.
Vance was her last hope.
Curled up on the hotel bed, she finally dialed his number.
To her surprise, he answered. The moment she heard his voice, real tears poured out. Not acting this
time.
“Vance…” she cried, thinking back to the days when he had pampered her in every possible way.
Now she was cast aside like a stray dog. Regret flooded her, but she still blamed him. If he hadn’t always refused to take their relationship to the next level and left her feeling so insecure, she never would have let Aiden talk her into anything. 1
Her heart pounded with anxiety because she had no idea where his head was at now. Did he already suspect something? 1
But his voice was calm and steady. “Cathy? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
It was the same soft tone he had always used. She sighed in relief and sniffled, “Why haven’t I seen you these past few days?”
“Oh, I’ve been sick,” he replied smoothly. “I haven’t even gone into the office. Just resting.”
“Sick? How are you feeling? Do you want me to come take care of you?” (13
“It’s fine. I had a high fever and kept drifting in and out of sleep. But I’m feeling much better today.”
“Vance… You’re still the best one.”
“What happened? Anyone treating you badly?”
“It was Aiden and Lucas…”
She launched into her complaints, telling him how Aiden and Sonia had divorced, how Sonia had kicked her out of the house, and how Lucas had helped Sonia instead.
She sounded furious. “That house wasn’t even bought with Aiden’s money. It was yours!”

“I see…” Vance coughed lightly. “Legally, Sonia’s actions are perfectly fine. Even though I gave the money to Aiden, it was in the form of bonuses and dividends. On paper, it belongs to him.”
“But what about me? I’m homeless again,” she sobbed.
“There’s not much I can do right now,” he sighed. “I gave all my assets to Rebecca. For the time being, just stay in a hotel or rent a place.”
“But I don’t have any money,” she groaned, deeply disappointed.
She had hoped he would offer to buy her a new place.
“I’m really sorry, but I’m also in a difficult situation. Right now, I only have about 10,000 dollars in my account-barely enough to cover one month’s rent.”
“Doesn’t the company have money?”
“It’s in a tough spot, too. Besides, even though I own the company, the business accounts and my personal accounts are separate. Don’t worry, though. Things will get better next month. You can rent a place first, and by the end of the year, you should be able to buy something new.”
She saw a glimmer of hope.
“Can I come stay with you? It would save on expenses.”
“I’m still sick. I don’t want to pass anything on to the baby.”
Fresh tears welled up in her eyes. “You still remember the baby?”
