Aiden paused outside the room, almost certain Vance was putting on an act.

He wondered if Vance had found out about everything he had done over the past few years. Anyway, he couldn’t just sit and wait.

He needed to figure out what Vance knew. But how could he test the waters? There was only one person

he could use.

When he came to find Catherine, she was still sulking. But the moment he handed her 100,000 dollars in cash, her anger vanished.

“You’re the mother of my child. I won’t abandon you,” he said, playing the emotional card.

She felt better, even thinking that she might have to stick with Aiden in the end. After all, she was carrying his child.

If she stayed with Vance, that landmine would eventually explode, and when it did, she would have

nowhere to run.

As her tone softened, Aiden began his performance, downing wine one glass after another.

“What’s wrong?” she asked.

He sighed dramatically and refused to speak. Finally, he pretended he was at the end of his rope and explained what he needed her to do.

She was reluctant. Doing that meant fully betraying Vance. Even though she had decided to side with Aiden, she still couldn’t bring herself to cut off Vance completely.

“I really don’t have any other choice. This is the only way to save the company,” he said, working hard to brainwash her. “We’ve offended Rossi deeply; he’ll definitely come after us. Should we just go down with Vance? Do you want to go back to those poor days when we had to share a loaf of bread?”

Of course, she didn’t want that. If she could handle hardship, she never would have left them and gone abroad when she was in her early 20s.

Now she was approaching 30. There was no way she’d turn the clock back and end up worse off. Besides, Vance had told her he only had 10,000 dollars left.

She was still hesitating when he dropped the heavy artillery. “Right now, I need to know what leverage Vance has so I can figure out how to handle it. Once I get past this crisis, I can ride Rossi’s coattails and make it big! Otherwise, I’m finished, and so are you.”

He paused deliberately. “Let’s be honest. I’m not the type who can share the good times or the bad. If I go down, I’ll make sure everyone knows the truth about that baby.”

The malice in his tone left her with no choice. She could only do what he told her.

The very next day, she invited Vance out for dinner and booked a private room at a restaurant. That evening, the two of them arrived one after the other.

Right after they entered, a car pulled up and parked across the street.

Inside the car sat Rebecca, the baby-faced young man, and two men in black suits. After parking, one of the men in black got out and went into the restaurant.

He exchanged a quick look with another man, who had been tailing Catherine. The latter nodded, indicating everything was going as planned.

Inside the private room, Catherine waited anxiously until Vance finally arrived.

She greeted him softly. Vance smiled and sat down across from her. They exchanged some fake pleasantries, then started looking at the menu.
