Chapter 469

Vance didn’t want to admit how perfectly they fit together and how well they moved as partners.

What hurt most was that Rebecca could still dance, yet the person helping her chase that dream wasn’t him. He had been the one who wanted more than anything to see her back on stage. He had been the one willing to lift her at all costs.

For five years, he had said countless times, “Rebecca, I want you to be happy more than anyone else does in the

world.”

Whether he said it to her or to himself, in the end, he had chosen the worst possible way. He had thought that giving her a luxurious life, beautiful clothes, and freedom from financial worry meant she was happy.

He had never once considered that she wasn’t a pet. He had never realized she wanted her own sky to soar high into.

Now someone else had lifted her, and she looked so radiant, just like the 16-year-old girl who had done backflips in front of the entire grade to join her class photo. She probably hadn’t even known she was the center of everyone’s attention that day.

Now she had finally found her way back to that version of herself.

That night, he watched the video on repeat, scrolling through every comment. Everyone was praising her, and an indescribable pride swelled in his chest.

He murmured, “That’s the girl I know. She’s always been this extraordinary, always worthy of everyone’s admiration.”

Suddenly, the phone was snatched from his hand. He exploded. “Give it back!”

“Look at the time. You’ve been glued to that thing for five hours. What day is it today?” Robert said. “At least, say Merry Christmas to your old man so I can give you some gifts. They are not for nothing.”

Vance lunged for the phone. “I don’t want your gifts. I’m here to bury you. I don’t want anything. Give me the phone!”

Robert glanced at the screen and chuckled. “Scrolling your wife’s videos, huh? Oh, right. Ex-wife.”

“You…” Vance was pissed off.

Robert tossed the phone back. “She’s out there living her best life with someone else, and you’re hiding in this dark corner spying on her?”

“You don’t understand!” Vance grabbed the phone and dove back to the video. “She is my pride.”

“Pride? Whose pride?” Robert snorted.

Vance caught the sarcasm and dropped back onto the sofa.

“This girl is definitely worth being proud of,” Robert continued, settling onto the smaller sofa beside Vance and crossing his legs. “But she’s not yours anymore.”

Vance frowned, knowing it was true, but he didn’t need anyone to remind him. Furious, he headed for his room with the phone.

“Remember the email I sent you?” Robert’s voice followed him, making him pause.

There had been a time when Robert sent many emails, but he had never replied.

“I apologized back then, telling you the biggest regret of my life was letting your mother down,” Robert sighed heavily. “You never replied, and clearly you never took it to heart.”

Vance vaguely remembered the email he had read and deleted.

At the time, Robert had just been betrayed by that woman. The child wasn’t even his, and he had been heartbroken, sending Vance an email.

Vance’s only reaction had been mockery and satisfaction. That was karma.
