Chapter 479
It was Vance!
He was the owner of the Cookie House, the blonde girl’s boyfriend, and the mature, handsome man the nurse had been raving about.
Vance saw Rebecca and gave a small nod. His expression was calm and distant, like that of a polite acquaintance.
Rebecca felt an arm tighten around her waist. Desmond had come over and was holding her possessively, his eyes fixed on Vance with clear hostility.
He was staking his claim.
Vance understood but remained composed. “Anna usually delivers the pastries. She couldn’t carry this three-tier cake by herself today.”
It sounded like an explanation for why he was there.
The nurse was stunned, glancing between them. “You know each other?”
Rebecca studied Vance’s face, ready to explain. He beat her to it. “We’re from the same city. I used to run a company there and met her a couple of times.”
“You ran a bakery there, too?” the nurse asked curiously.
Several of the nurses had only started last year after graduating, so they wouldn’t have known that Vance had once visited the Soliaridge clinic. Or maybe they had seen him and simply forgotten.
After all, so many patients came and went.
He paused, then answered politely, “No.”
“Then why did you move here and switch to running a bakery?” the nurse asked again.
Vance glanced at Anna beside him. His eyes softened with warmth. “Because someone likes to eat cake.”
He put his arm around Anna’s shoulders the same way Desmond was holding Rebecca. “Meet my girlfriend, Anna.
“She’s your girlfriend? I thought she was just a store clerk. I…” The outgoing nurse was visibly disappointed. She waved her hand. “Never mind. It ended before it even started.”
The tenderness in Vance’s eyes deepened. “Our little shop is just starting. Thank you all for supporting our business. Anna is still young and has just learned how to ride a bike, so deliveries sometimes take a little longer. We appreciate your understanding.”
The once high-and-mighty CEO was now so humble, asking the customers to be patient with his girlfriend.
“We’ll be going now. Happy birthday,” he said.
Anna placed a bouquet on the table. “The flowers are a gift from us. Happy birthday.”
As they left the clinic, Anna grabbed Vance’s arm and said something. He bent down slightly and tilted his head to listen.
“What kind of sweetheart is this?” the nurse yelped with admiration. “He opened a bakery because his girlfriend likes cake. He decorated the whole shop like a gingerbread house because she loves fairy tales, and he’s so

handsome!”
Her eyes landed on the card tucked in the bouquet. She quickly pulled it out and exclaimed again, “Wow, his handwriting is beautiful, too! It’s in English. It must be written by him!”
The card read: [Wish you a full, happy life!]
Rebecca looked down and recognized Vance’s handwriting. When she looked outside again, the two people had disappeared.
