Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 520

Chapter 520

Desmond’s hand around hers felt like a shackle.

Rebecca felt sick. “Is this really fun for you? What kind of person do you think I am?”

Desmond panicked, shaking her arm gently. “I just… love you too much. I’m scared.”

Rebecca remembered what he had said that morning: “Don’t let problems fester overnight. Solve them right away.

So, she forced herself to stay calm. “Desmond, this can’t continue. My life can’t revolve only around you. I need friends, a career, and coworkers. Men are going to exist in my world. If every time I talk to one, you assume something inappropriate is happening. It’s not going to work.”

His eyes dimmed. “I know. It’s my fault. Forgive me this once. I won’t do it again.”

She stared at him. “You’ve already said that more than once.”

“I swear.” He lowered his eyes. “This time I really mean it.”

“Let’s eat.” She didn’t want to drag the argument out any longer.

“Okay.” He squeezed her hand. “Babe, I really do love you.”

She managed a small smile. “I know.”

Starting a relationship was never easy. Hopefully, this was the last time, and there was still a way to fix it.

That afternoon, she went to the clinic for rehabilitation. Each session lasted two to three hours, and Desmond always stayed in the treatment room with her.

When they finished and stepped out, it was the time when the day-shift nurses were handing over to the night shift. Rebecca noticed every nurse coming on duty was carrying a bag of bread from Vance’s cookie shop.

She pretended not to notice. Otherwise, Desmond would make another scene.

But the night-shift nurses started talking excitedly to everyone in the hall.

“Hey, everyone, hurry to the cookie shop! They’re giving everything away for free today.”

“Yeah! We got there late, and only bread was left. All the pretty cakes were already gone.”

The day-shift nurses immediately asked, “Why free? Can we still make it if we go now?”

“There’s still a little left. Everyone’s been restrained about it. Nobody’s taking too much. They’re saving some for neighbors who haven’t heard yet.”

“Why are they doing this? Is it some promotion? How many days? If it’s tomorrow too, I’ll go early.”

“It’s not a promotion. They said they’re closing. Today is the last day, so everything is free.”

“What? Closing? Why?”

The day-shift nurses were shocked and started guessing.

Some said it was a shame because the cookie shop had the best bread and cakes in the neighborhood-the kind that tasted like home. Others wondered if business was bad. A few asked if they were moving locations.

Just then, the last night-shift nurse walked in carrying the biggest bag of bread. She muttered as she entered, “I was the last one and took everything that was left. The owner closed up and left.”

The day-shift nurses looked disappointed that they hadn’t had time to go.

“I’ll share some with you,” the night-shift nurse offered. “The shop really is closing. I heard from the old lady next door that someone went in this morning, caused a huge scene, told the owner he couldn’t stay open, and smashed a bunch of stuff.”

Desmond’s expression shifted at those words. He quickly urged Rebecca, “Babe, let’s go. We still have one more run-through to do.”

“Okay.” Rebecca acted like she hadn’t heard a thing.

She gathered her things, said goodbye to the doctor, and set up tomorrow’s appointment before they left.
