Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 542

I understand,Vance said quickly. I will never try to win her back. I know I can never be part of her life again. You’re smarter than I thought. Come over,Gabriel said.

When Vance arrived at the Perryshouse, driven by Gabriel’s chauffeur, the first thing he saw was Josette’s worried face.

He hadn’t seen her in a long time, his heart twisting painfully. The old lady had once loved him so dearly, and he had genuinely planned to take good care of her in her later years.

Grandma, I came to see Rebecca,he said, crouching in front of her.

Josette already knew his purpose from Gabriel. Seeing him like this made her heart ache terribly as well. She had once pinned all her hopes on him, believing he would make Rebecca happy. No one had expected things to come to this.

Go ahead, she said, feeling both resentment and reluctance.

She couldn’t ignore the things he had done, but Rebecca needed his help now.

Vance followed Gabriel upstairs. The bedroom door was tightly shut.

My mom is inside with her,Gabriel explained. She can’t be left alone, and she won’t open the door for anyone.

Vance nodded.

You go in. I’ll stay out here. Too many people might overwhelm her.Gabriel opened the door for him.

The room had a small sitting area, then the bedroom beyond.

Vance was dressed neatly, with slightly tousled short hair falling over his forehead. His eyes carried a cool, quiet intensity

behind the strands.

The moment he stepped inside, he saw Rebecca halfpropped against the headboard, her eyes vacant and her face deathly pale. In just a few days, she looked like a completely different person from the vibrant woman who had shone on the Edinburgh stage.

Staring blankly into space, she suddenly noticed his presence and started to panic. She burrowed deeper into the covers, shouting, Don’t come over! Don’t come over! He’ll see you and say something again! Go away!

Vance was stunned.

Gabriel rushed inside and yanked him back out. This isn’t working! Forget it! You’re scaring her!

He dragged Vance all the way downstairs and urged him to leave quickly.

That’s all the more reason I can’t leave now.Vance planted his feet firmly. Rebecca’s condition is far more serious than we imagined. I’m staying, no matter what. I’d rather have her scream at me, hit me, or even want to kill me than watch her hide.

But Gabriel no longer trusted him. What can you do?
