Josette treated the letters like poisonous snakes, refusing to let her see them.
“Grandma, it’s okay,” Rebecca said, reaching out. “Only by facing it can I truly move
right?”

Josette hesitated for a moment before nervously handing over the letters. Rebecca opened them one by one and read every word carefully.
Desmond apologized and reminisced about many of their past happy moments. He also asked what more he could do to win her back. Hadn’t he already given enough?
“Given“. Her stomach churned at that word.
She picked up the glass of ice water in front of her and drank it all in one go, forcing the nausea down. Only after she had read every letter did Josette, who had been watching her intently, finally relax.
“I told you I’m fine,” Rebecca reassured her.
Gabriel called, saying that Desmond’s parents had come and wanted the two families to have dinner together. He asked if she was willing to go.
Rebecca had a good impression of Desmond’s parents. She didn’t know what their purpose was this tirne, but after thinking it over, she decided to face them.
No matter what, they needed proper closure. Besides, she trusted that Gabriel wouldn’t put her in danger.
Gabriel supported the idea and said both he and Kaitlyn would accompany her. That evening, she went to the appointed restaurant.
When they arrived, Desmond and his parents were already there.
Joyce was as elegant and graceful as ever. When she saw Rebecca, she offered a perfectly measured smile.
Desmond sat between his parents. He looked thinner, his face a little pale, his gaze lowered. He seemed much more subdued
and distant.
“You’re here. Please sit,” Joyce said warmly.
“Thank you,” Rebecca replied politely.
The three of them sat down across from the Schroeders. The rims of Desmond’s eyes reddened. But with his parents present, he only said softly, “Rebecca.”

“Hi, Desmond,” Gabriel greeted him.
The two families sat down to dinner with polite, careful conversation. They exchanged pleasantries for quite a while, but there was a subtle tension in the air.
No one brought up the real reason for the meeting until Joyce gave a soft sigh. Her gaze moved between Rebecca and Desmond before she gently broached the subject.
“Rebecca, the main reason for this dinner is… we wanted to say a proper goodbye. We plan to take Desmond back home. The family business is busy, and Tracy can’t handle everything alone,” she said.
Sean broke his silence and spoke with quiet authority. “Let the past stay in the past. Young people are bound to be impulsive. Once he’s back, we’ll have him start at the bottom of the company to build some discipline and put aside any inappropriate thoughts.”
Joyce’s words were indirect, using the family business as an excuse, while her husband was more straightforward, though still polite.
