Chapter 565
Uriah couldn’t help asking her “A friend of yours?”
Vance gave a gentle smile. “We just know each other.”
She was tipsy but not drunk enough to utter the words “ex–husband“.
Anna smiled sweetly. “We’re friends.”
Rebecca was momentarily stunned. The awkwardness dissolved instantly with Arina’s friendliness.
Rebecca thought to herself that it was a good thing she and Vance had ended their marriage like mortal enemies, cutting all ties cleanly. Otherwise, she would feel terrible for someone as sweet as Anna.
Anna’s comment effectively ended any further discussion about who Vance was to Rebecca. Everyone introduced themselves, and the second round of drinking began.
Throughout the meal, Rebecca didn’t talk much.
She just listened, ate, and drank while Uriah and another student chatted with Vance about music and the local dances. Whenever Uriah praised her, she felt a little awkward and could only raise her glass in response.
Anna expressed her love for Deer Cry. Sitting next to her, Heather perked up and launched into an enthusiastic explanation, gesturing nonstop with the help of alcohol, as if she had found a kindred spirit.
An hour later, Rebecca’s dizziness grew stronger, and the voices around her started to sound farther away.
The atmosphere was pleasant. The fireplace kept the room warm and cozy. She leaned against the wall and half closed her eyes, growing pleasantly hazy, unaware when Uriah and the male student/left.
Heather had drunk quite a bit but was still spirited.
Rebecca vaguely heard her asking, “How did you two end up in this village? Before Rebecca brought me here, I had no ade¤ à place like this even existed.”
“Our friend once came here,” Anna replied. “We’re following in his footsteps.”
Rebecca sobered up slightly. “Darren came here, too?”
“Yes,” Vance answered. “If we hadn’t read it in his travel journal, we never would have known there was a place like Tips away in the corner of the world.”
“Did he dance too?” Rebecca slurred.
“He did.” Vance nodded, then recited softly, “The stone houses here are surprisingly pisk They stand alene between mountains and the sea. The lamb stew is mushy, the potatoes and carrots soak up all the broth
“You dip the black bread in the soup warm and filling The old man next to me starts playing the room, and the atmosphere feels just right in the heat of the moment, I get up and dance, wondering what that girl who have han lng secon think if she came here
“Everything here the houses, the food, the music is direct if you need warmth, there’s a tus perd local
