Chapter 581
Some people went so far as to flood the college website with angry comments and complain directly to Rebecca’s professors, demanding that the school feel ashatred of a student like her
Her doctoral program’s website was also bombarded with harassment, and her advisor was doxxed.
The teachers who cared about her kept reaching obt. Lauren publicly defended Rebecca online, but she was quickly overwhelmed by waves of paid trolls.
Even her family members were doxxed. Her voice was ultimately swallowed by the frenzied online bombardment. She was forced to disable comments.
She called Rebecca and felt regretful. “Many faculty members are following this, but we really…”
They couldn’t really help her much.
“It’s okay, Professor,” Rebecca reassured her. “Things are under control. Please pass on my thanks to the other teachers. Tell them not to speak up for me anymore. These things can’t be cleared up with words alone. It only drags more people into the mess.”
Lauren sounded heartbroken. “If Desmond could just step forward and set the record straight, this would all blow over. But what’s going on with that boy?”
Rebecca smiled bitterly, knowing why.
“I just contacted him and asked him for help, but he was evasive,” Lauren sighed. “How did he become like this?”
Rebecca didn’t know either.
Desmond wasn’t like this when they first met. Perhaps only through close interaction could one truly know what a person was like.
She comforted Lauren and ended the call.

In reality, she couldn’t, which was why she didn’t dare answer directly. Still, she decided to throw a lavish victory party to celebrate her huge success.
