Chapter 583

All eyes in the roof focused on Desmond.

Margaret clenched her fists nervously. After all these years, Desmond had never once backed her up. Toward her, he had shown nothing but irritation and avoidance.

“Professor, this dance wasn’t a joint creation,” he replied.

Gasps rippled through the crowd, and Margaret’s eyes glittered with joy. Laurer, stumbled back, her face turning ashen with disappointment.

“Pascal,” Lauren said to her husband, “I don’t care what you do, but even if I end up begging on the street, I won’t stay friends with people like this.”

She grabbed her purse and headed for the exit. Wearing high heels, she walked fast in her agitation and swayed.

Pascal hurried after her and caught her arm. “Slow down. You’ll fall like that.”

“I’d rather have a heart attack from rushing than stay here another second,” Lauren huffed. “Why did you come out? Aren’t you going to maintain your relationship with those people?”

Pascal helped her into the elevator, then said quietly, “The most important relationship I need to protect in this life is ours.”

Lauren paused, her eyes growing misty. “You believe in Rebecca, and I believe in you. Let’s go together.”

Their departure caused little stir. The party continued.
