Since Vance had been sent to the ICU, they couldn’t visit him.
It took Gabriel great effort to persuade Antia and Rebecca to go home. Rebecca was deeply worried about Anna, who had been in a daze the entire time, seemingly unable to accept what had happened to Vance.
Rebecca had many things she wanted to say-aporagies, promises, guarantees-but none of them would come out.
When they left the hospital building, Anna started walking away and ever forgot to get into their car.
“Anna…” Rebecca called out.
Anna turned around in a trance.
Rebecca almost cried. “Why don’t you stay at my house for a while?”
She was worried that Anna wouldn’t be able to handle the shock alone. But Anna gave a faint smile and shook her head.
Rebecca’s heart twisted painfully. “Come stay with us. We can keep each other company, and if you need anything, we can help.”
Anna shook her head again. “No, I should go home.”
Rebecca insisted, “Then let us take you home.”
“I’ll take the subway,” Anna declined, turning to leave.
“Anna!” Rebecca chased after her. “Are you mad at me?”
After all, Vance had been hurt trying to save her his ex-wife. That had to be another layer of pain for Anna. Even though it wasn’t intentional on Rebecca’s part, it was still the truth.
Anna shook her head and even reached out to tidy Rebecca’s messy hair.
“How could I? You’re so adorable, and you dance so beautifully. We have no grudge against each other. Why would I be mad at you?”
“But Vance got hurt because of me…”
Anna reached out to cover Rebecca’s mouth, her eyes misting over.
“Don’t say that. You are his unresolved knot, and so is your leg. I think if he could resolve all the entanglements in this way, might feel much lighter.”

Rebecca was totally lost, not sure of Anna’s meaning. Entanglements? Had she misunderstood because of the language barrier?
“Do you mean he has finally resolved all the entanglements between him and me?” she asked.
Anna thought for a moment, then nodded. “You could say that.”
Rebecca’s grip loosened as Vance’s past words echoed in her mind.
“I won’t divorce her. I will support her for the rest of my life. This is what I owe her.”
“I will treat her well. I’ll give her the best things in the world-a big house and more money than she can spend. This is what I owe her.”
“You don’t understand. She is my responsibility, and I will carry it for the rest of my life.”
Had he finally settled everything with her now? He owed her nothing anymore,
“It’s fine. I can go back by myself. I still need to buy a few things. Bye.” Anna waved and ran off.
