Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 608

Chapter 608

Vance was awake, but his face was ghastly pale.

Over the past two years, he had grown painfully thin

so thin that the blanket lay flat over him, barely rising at

all. He looked worn down and hollow.

But his eyes lit up the moment he saw the two.

“Grandma…” His voice trembled.

When they got closer, Rebecca realized the glitter in his eyes was from unshed tears.

Josette leaned in and asked softly, “Does it hurt?”

The rims of his eyes reddened. “No, it doesn’t.”

Josette didn’t mention anything painful. She simply smiled and placed the homemade dishes on the bedside table. “It’s the New Year, and I made some Soliaridge specialties. This time of year, you need something warm and familiar.”

“Thank you,” Vance said hoarsely.

“Silly child, if it hurts too much, you don’t have to talk. I understand,” she said gently, then took out a box and placed it on the table. “It’s New Year’s Eve today. Everyone gets a little gift. May you have a long, healthy, and prosperous life.”

Vance couldn’t hold it in anymore. His eyes squeezed shut, tears slipping out from the corners.

“Thank you. I’ll be okay,” he murmured, his lips trembling.

Just saying that short sentence seemed to drain all his strength.

Josette dabbed at his eyes with a soft tissue. “Don’t be sad, child. Get better. I’ll cook for you again.”

“Yeah.” He didn’t dare open his eyes to look at her or the person standing behind her.

Josette took out another box and handed it to Anna. “Sweetheart, this is for you. May good things come your way in the new year.”

Anna looked at Vance, who gave a slight nod. Only then did she accept it and thank Josette.

“I’ll go wash these,” Anna said, picking up the empty plates before stepping out.

There was a sink right in the room, and she didn’t need to leave. Her intention couldn’t have been clearer. She was giving them space.

Josette followed. “I’ll go help her.”

And just like that, only Rebecca and Vance were left in the room.

She had stayed behind Josette, avoiding facing him directly. Now she couldn’t hide anymore, but words still failed her. Memories of the past 12 years came rushing back. They surged and dipped like a roller coaster.
