Vance had always been sensible and hardworking, but his parents were unreliable, abandoning him to run off abroad.

Irene planned to stick to him, but her health was failing. She didn’t know how much longer she could accompany him. In any case, she would never hold him back from chasing his future or the girl he liked.

She only hoped he could live a peaceful life with someone who loved, supported, and grew old with him. Her smile remained, but her vision gradually blurred.

“Grandma, take good care of yourself. I’ll take you to Arelmoor to climb the monuments and watch the flag–raising someday,” Vance said earnestly.

“That sounds wonderful. I can’t wait,” she agreed happily.

The results from her recent checkup were far from positive, but she kept them hidden from him. Unaware of any of this, Vance chatted with her enthusiastically for a while about Arelmoor before going to his room.

Back home, Rebecca suddenly thought of something.

In the original timeline, Vance’s grandmother passed away during their senior year of high school. If they had discovered her illness earlier and treated it in time, she might have survived.

A knock on the door interrupted her research. Her first thought was that her parents had come to cause trouble again. Then she realized they had never been so mild.

Gabriel laughed along, while Josette was surprised that her daughter had returned without notice. But anyway, she was overjoyed, warmly inviting them inside.

After receiving Rebecca’s email, Kaitlyn and Gabriel had discussed it before immediately booking the flights home.

Josette looked at Kaitlyn lovingly. They hugged tightly and cried in each other’s arms before sheepishly explaining to the younger ones that those were tears of joy.

“I’m sorry, Mom. Coming back is just one plane ticket away, but…” Kaitlyn trailed off.

They were always busy, but if they truly wanted to return, they could have made the time.
