Chapter 690
After leaving the church, they hiked the nearby mountain trail. Rebecca and Jenny walked arm in arm, chatting quietly.
“We’re planning to grab dinner at Vance’s restaurant later,” Jenny said. “Wanna join us?”
“Sure, why not?” Rebecca agreed readily.
Jenny’s eyes widened in shock. “You agreed? Just like that?”
“Is that weird?”
“You used to refuse no matter how much we begged. Did you and Vance finally make up? What kind of fight lasts a whole year?”
Rebecca shook her head. She had no idea what her younger self had done.
“Vance’s restaurant was supposed to be a secret only our little group knew about,” Jenny continued. “Somehow word got out, and now he’s like a campus idol. I’ve had so many gifts and letters dropped off for him. People beg me to pass them along.”
“He was always popular,” Rebecca said with a small smile.
Vance had that icy, standoffish aura and a short fuse to boot. But he was devastatingly good–looking, pulled straight A’s, and was the star of every sports team. No surprise, half the girls at school were head over heels for him.
“That’s not the same.” Jenny shook her head. “Before, no matter who crushed on him, he couldn’t have cared less. Now there’s this new transfer student, Catherine Welch, and he’s just…”
Rebecca froze mid–step. No matter what changed, it seemed she couldn’t escape Catherine.
Jenny noticed her expression and blinked. “You didn’t know?”
Rebecca remained silent, having no idea if this version of her even knew who Catherine was.
