Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 706

Chapter 706

Catherine looked around, suddenly realizing she had only made matters worse. The moment she snapped back to her senses, she reverted to her old pitiful act

“Vance…” she whimpered. “I’m so sorry. I… was just so terrified of causing you trouble. I didn’t mean to. I just didn’t want to drag you down. You’re so wonderful, always top of the class, so upstanding…”

“A clean shirt needs no washing,” Vance cut her off, glancing at the bistro staff. “If you want to keep working at this place, go ahead. This won’t affect your employment.”

Then he turned to Rebecca and Jenny. “Let’s go.”

“Where to?” Jenny asked, her voice laced with irritation.

They had originally come out to get dinner, but instead of food, they had been served a massive helping of absolute aggravation. There was no way they were just going to walk away empty–handed.

“To eat,” Vance replied in a flat tone.

“Are you treating us to an absolute feast as an apology? What kind of budget are we talking about here? Let me see if it’s up to my standards first,” she said sassily, her feet already falling into step right beside him.

The two of them had always shared a fiercely loyal, uncomplicated friendship from day one.

No matter how out of line he got, the moment he was willing to swallow his pride, buy her a massive meal, or hand over an apology gift, she would naturally bury the hatchet.

It was a different story for Rebecca. Vance had promised that he’d fire Catherine, only to turn around and find her a new job, plus shower her with so many expensive gifts.

The old Rebecca would have backed down, knowing that, from the very start, her crush had been entirely one–sided. Vance had never promised her anything.

That was right. She had also figured out that those exorbitant designer items on Catherine had been paid for out of Vance’s pocket. The sharp jab hit its mark, causing Vance’s expression to sour.

“What? Am I wrong?” Jenny snorted. “I’ll take the Maine lobster.”

Vance cleared his throat. “Well, I only bought those things out of gratitude. Her mother helped a lot with my grandmother’s post–surgery check–ups.”

Jenny wasn’t impressed. “So, it’s a flat–out bribe?

“That’s ridiculous.” Vance frowned. “We’re classmates and friends. A gift isn’t a bribe.”
